Steps for Building a Home in Georgia
From happening Atlanta to nostalgic Savannah and exciting Athens, Georgia is a great state to settle down in. It has friendly people, affordable housing, amazing produce, and wonderful weather (most of the time). If you're going to build a home in Georgia, follow these steps:
Find a Plot of Land
If you're buying a plot of land in a planned community, you may not have to worry about potential issues with the land. However, if you are buying a standalone lot, be sure to check for possible hazards. If the land is swampy, it may eventually shift, causing problems with your home's foundation. Thoroughly research an area before you commit to anything.
Decide on a Contractor
When you're comparing contractors, one of the first things you should do is make sure that they are properly licensed. They should have a license from the State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors. Find out as much about the contractor's work as you can. Have past customers been satisfied? Does the contractor have a reputation for sticking to a timeline and staying within budget?
Build and Move In
Throughout the building process, be sure to stop by the construction site frequently so you can ask questions, check on progress, and address any concerns. Once the home is built, you may need to obtain an occupancy permit before you can move in; only a few counties, including Gwinnett County, require this type of permit. After you've dotted your I's and crossed your T's, you can begin to enjoy your new home!
