Located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Greenville has a population of just over 62,000. Established in the northwestern region of the state, the city is approximately four hours inland and is positioned halfway between Atlanta, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina. As part of the Interstate 85 corridor, it is easily accessible by way of many major highways, and there are also several airports in the Greenville area, including perhaps most prominently the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. Given its southern location, Greenville also boasts a warm climate and short, cool winters that dip on average to temperatures in the low 40s. Economically, the city serves as headquarters to several large foreign and domestic companies, including General Electric, Caterpillar, Hubbell Lighting and Michelin.
