Loring Heights
HobNob, Gusto! And more dining
Whether in the denser urban area around Atlantic Station or quieter streets in Loring Heights, residents are walkable to shopping, dining and lifestyle amenities. “There are so many options,” Walker says. Popular spots include HobNob, a relaxed tavern serving American bar food, and Gusto!, a local Atlanta chain offering salad and rice bowls. Tucked into a repurposed industrial center, the founding location of Monday Night Brewing touts the slogan “Weekends are overrated” and serves customers in its spacious taproom and outdoor patio. Atlantic Station has a Target and Publix for groceries, and Ikea on 16th Street sells home goods. The area also has shops like Dillard’s, H&M, Old Navy and Express.Plenty of attractions in Atlantic Station
Atlantic Station is home to the Museum of Illusions and the smaller Millennium Gate Museum, which is nearly hidden inside a large classical arch. Locals can head across I-85 to Midtown to visit the High Museum of Art, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion and Film, and more cultural attractions. Basketball fans will love Atlantic Station’s Overtime Elite Arena, a full-sized stadium home to a basketball league for players looking to rise in the professional ranks. For a casual weekend out, Atlantic Station also has the Bowlero Atlantic Station bowling alley, Regal Atlantic Station movie theater and Skate the Station outdoor ice rink.Waterworks Park, Loring Heights Park and Piedmont Park nearby
Waterworks Park has shaded walking paths and a playground themed around drainage pipes, an ode to the nearby water treatment center. Climbing The Hill at Atlanta Waterworks delivers views of the downtown, Midtown and Buckhead skylines. In the northeast corner of Loring Heights is Loring Heights Park, an intimate community green space with a playground, walking paths and a duck pond. Just around the corner, Tanyard Creek Greenspace has a dog park. For a more substantial outdoor space, residents are only 2 miles west of Piedmont Park, one of Atlanta’s largest and most popular parks with an expansive trail system, a tennis center, an aquatic center and the Atlanta Botanical Garden.A mix of old and new homes and condos
Closer to Atlantic Station, there’s newer construction, including modern townhouses and condos near commercial centers. One-bedroom condos in Atlantic Station typically cost between $200,000 and $350,000, though most residents rent their homes. The landscape immediately around Atlantic Station has an urban feel and walkable streets. On the other hand, the residential streets of Berkeley Park and Loring Heights favor older housing styles, primarily Craftsman and Minimal Traditional homes, though some modern architecture mixes into the suburban landscape. A four-bedroom, renovated home in these quieter areas usually costs around $600,000 to $700,000.Atlanta Public Schools and Georgia Tech
Students in Loring Heights may begin at E. Rivers Elementary School, which scores a B-plus grade on Niche, before advancing to B-plus-rated Sutton Middle School and A-minus-rated North Atlanta High School. North Atlanta High opened in 2013 at a converted IBM office park in Buckhead. The 11-story school has a gym with a 1,800-person capacity, a performing arts complex and a rifle range. Georgia Tech’s campus is also about 1 mile south of Loring Heights. “At one point we did have more students living here, but now they’ve built new buildings for students,” Walker says. “One is called Catalyst off Northside Drive.”Walking and driving around Loring Heights and Atlantic Station
The area is bordered by I-75 and I-85, which takes locals downtown, while Northside Drive offers easy travel to Bobby Jones Golf Course and the rest of the Buckhead area. Potential homebuyers should note that some parts of this bustling urban area can get loud due to highway traffic. Loring Heights is also 13 miles north of Hartsfield-Jackston Atlanta International Airport and 1.5 miles south of Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Berkeley Heights and Loring Heights residents will need to walk or drive across the 17th Street Bridge to access the Atlantic Station development. The bridge has sidewalks and several lanes of car traffic crossing here as well.
