Davenport is a coastal community along U.S. Route 1, a scenic highway overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The area’s beaches are popular for water sports like surfing and sailing, and people walk to the coastal cliffs to see whale migrations. Located 10 miles outside of Santa Cruz, residents are a short drive away from the coastal city’s vibrant food and shopping scene. “Davenport is a very small community that has about 100 homes,” says Frank Murphy, owner of Frank Murphy Realty with 25 years of experience. “It’s right on the coast and is surrounded by state parks. It’s really windy because it’s above the Monterey Bay, so the wind comes right off the ocean.” Homes in Davenport are grouped into several small clusters, and houses are often right on the coast of Highway 1.
