Evergreen is known as the “Emerald City” for its natural beauty, and in 2017, the city council passed a tongue-in-cheek resolution naming the community the “Bigfoot Capital of Alabama” after a stretch of reported sightings. The city has been the home of Conecuh Sausage since 1947, with a processing plant and a retail store that lets visitors sample the hickory-smoked delicacy.
