Founded in the 1850s as a railroad waystation, Hilliard is a suburb of Columbus located 13 miles northwest of the state capital. Though originally rural, its population exploded in the 1960s—the result of overflow from the surrounding communities of Dublin, Upper Arlington and Clintonville.
