It won't be long before Lake Lure makes its comeback. The Rutherford County community was one of the hardest hit areas during Hurricane Helene in 2024. "About 60% of people would come here for Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, and both of those are closed and being repaired, so there isn't much bringing buyers here," says Realtor David Caulder with Caulder Realty and Land Co. Even though many areas are still closed, some restaurants and trails are waiting for visitors to come. However, Lake Lure is steadily being restored, and Caulder hopes it'll open in 2026. "Once the lake comes back online, it's going to be bigger and better; the sewer and water systems are being repaired, so there's a lot of hope for the future," Caulder says. "The area is just so beautiful and means so much to so many people. It's just going through a tough time right now. Sprawling homes and cozy cabins with views of the foothills, the water and changing leaves are among the attractions of Lake Lure.
