Somerset County’s Lincoln Township made the news back in 2002, when the Sipesville Volunteer Fire Department sprang into action to rescue nine miners trapped in the Quecreek Mine. The mine has since been closed, and the location of the harrowing event has become the Quecreek Mine Rescue Site, with a statue memorializing the safe return of all nine miners.
