Developing residential area with access to Lackland & Randolph Air Force Bases
Featuring a popular fishing and boating lake, Southeast Side is a rural area that borders the line between San Antonio and Bexar County. Just outside the 410 loop, this community gives residents an escape from the city without going too far away. A mix of residential, industrial space and farmland, Southeast Side is 16 miles from downtown San Antonio. It includes several small towns, including Adkins. “The area still has a lot of country and farmland, but Adkins is starting to blow up now,” says Daniel Quesada, broker from San Antonio-based Mitchell Realty with 12 years of experience. “You’ve got access to both air force bases. And it’s five minutes from Brooks City Base, which has everything from Best Buy to Olive Garden.”
Southeast Side homes often come with large yards for barbeques, gardens or decorations.
Spacious lawns outside San Antonio
Southeast Side contains some new subdivisions that feature cul-de-sacs, sidewalks, spacious lawns and tract homes with large built-in garages. Large farmhouses and Spanish Eclectic styles can be found in the area as well. However, much of the community is spread out, surrounded by trees or farmland. Modest ranch-style homes and bungalows dot the landscape in the more rural parts of the neighborhood. Homes typically cost between $240,000 and $320,000. Four-bed, two-bath new constructions are available for $275,000. Additionally, apartments start at $1,245 per month.
East Central Independent Schools
Southeast Side is part of East Central Independent School District, which breaks up schooling into several well-rated schools beyond the traditional elementary, middle and high school pipeline. Wiederstein Elementary teaches prekindergarten through Grade 4; Barbara Jordan Intermediate School teaches Grades 5 and 6; and Ray D. Corbett Junior High School teaches Grades 7 and 8. They are all rated A-minus on Niche. High schoolers can attend CAST Lead, a tuition-free public school for Grades 9 and 10 that prepares students for leadership positions in the retail, hospitality and ecommerce industries. It is rated B-minus on Niche, as is East Central High School for Grades 9 through 12.

Easy access to the 1604 Loop
Highways 181 and 87 both run east to west through the area, and Interstate 10 creates the northern border of the neighborhood. The 1604 Loop cuts north to south through the middle of the neighborhood. With four major highways in range, Southeast Side residents are never too far from anywhere in the San Antonio area. However, Southeast Side does not have bus stops, and its spread-out nature could make it challenging for bikers and pedestrians. For peace of mind, the nearest hospital is Mission Trail Baptist Hospital about 12 miles west.
Family-friendly dining outside San Antonio
Residents of Southeast Side have plenty of popular restaurants to choose from. Chile Verde Mexican Restaurant is a family-friendly spot known for their enchiladas and margaritas. Texas Pride Barbecue offers award-winning smoked meats and desserts, plus live music on the weekends. This family-owned spot is considered one of the best places in San Antonio to take out-of-town guests. For groceries and everyday essentials, locals can head to the Walmart Supercenter.

Fishing on Calaveras Lake
Calaveras Lake is one of the most popular fishing spots in the San Antonio area. This 3,000-acre lake is home to bass, catfish and red drum. The Calaveras Lake Park has two boat ramps plus several campsites for those who are game for an overnight adventure. The entrance fee to the park also gives access to nearby Victor Braunig Lake.
