An established community in Northeastern Albuquerque
Holiday Park in northeast Albuquerque stands out among its neighbors for its age and modesty. “If you go a little bit northeast of Holiday Park, you’ll find neighborhoods full of really high-end custom-built homes,” says Realtor John Sheffer with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services New Mexico, who has over 20 years of experience in the area. “If you go a little bit north, you hit golf course communities. Holiday Park is in that area but is older and still affordable. It’s an established neighborhood where comradery between neighbors is still a thing, which you just don’t find a lot of these days.” Flanked on either side by popular restaurants, major thoroughfares and parks, Holiday Park offers residents access to all of Albuquerque from the foothills of the Sandia Mountains.

Single-story homes from the 1970s and Pueblo-style townhouses
Over 1,000 homes line the densely packed streets of Holiday Park, coming in a variety of styles. “It was built primarily in the 1970s, so there’s a lot of brick,” Sheffer says. “Homes there are predominantly single-story, but you’ll find a few split-levels throughout. The big draw is the affordability because it’s one of the only remaining entry neighborhoods on the northeast side of town that’s still achievable for first-time buyers and young families.” Ranch-style houses and Craftsman cottages are common, although stucco-sided Modern Traditional builds and townhouses with Pueblo-inspired features can also be found. Townhouses tend to cost between $305,000 and $400,000, while detached single-family homes can range from about $275,000 to $460,000 depending on square footage, the number of bedrooms and the build year.

Trails through the Sandia Mountain foothills and close-to-home community centers
The Sandia Mountains east of the neighborhood inform much of the area’s outdoor recreation. “There is a fair number of parks nearby. It’s at the base of the foothills, where there are lots of trails and open space,” Sheffer says. In addition to the small playground at Holiday Park Neighborhood Park and the McLeod Family Y, residents enjoy access to trailheads like the Piedra Lisa Canyon Loop winding through these foothills. “The Elena Gallegos Open Space is huge and just north of Holiday Park,” he adds. “You could walk there if you’re brave enough.” Options closer to home include the Holiday Park Community Center, which offers a fitness center, basketball gymnasium and a game room.
