About a mile south, diners can hit up family-owned Mary & Tito’s Café, where carne adovado, a baked pork dish marinated in red chile, as well as enchiladas, have been local favorites since 1963, or Pastian’s Bakery for their anise-and-cinnamon flavored shortbread cookies called biscochitos. Set one mile south, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center hosts American Indian Week every spring, where residents can watch Pueblo Indians perform native dances, explore Pueblo culture through museum exhibits and find southwestern-style jewelry in the arts store. “Jewelry is a huge industry here,” says David Duerksen, Associate Broker with Simply Real Estate. “I used to deliver casting supplies to jewelers at the cultural center, so that they could make their jewelry on site.” The center also hosts the Spring Arts Market during the second to last weekend of American Indian Week; here, more than 40 artists showcase their pottery, jewelry and paintings outside.

Montano Road and Rio Grande Boulevard link locals to shops and restaurants, while residents can take 12th Street roughly 3 miles south into downtown Albuquerque; Interstate 25 leads north toward Santa Fe.
