Ethel Park brings urban convenience to a 1920s community
Like many areas in Alhambra, Ethel Park’s tree-lined streets are a relic of 1920s Los Angeles. The neighborhood’s Spanish-style cottages and uniform lawns have remained as surrounding LA County has grown into a bustling metropolis. Its popularity is as strong as ever due to its desirable architecture and convenience to amenities. “The neighborhood is definitely suburban but there's urban activity around it, so it appeals to people looking for good schools and nice homes and to people who want to be in a convenient location,” says Realtor Mike Chou, leader of the Chou Team with Keller Williams Executive, who’s been selling in Alhambra since 2010. The neighborhood’s approachable prices, highly rated schools and proximity to employers cater to long-time residents and first-time homebuyers. “People really buy into the community, they’re super involved,” says Chou. “They have a recycling event twice a year and other events like that to bring everyone together.” While the location and schools are major factors, many residents move to and stay in Ethel Park for its 1920s suburban aesthetic.
Homes in Ethel Park range from about $850,000 to $1.3 million for larger lot sizes.

Spanish-style cottages on tree-lined streets
Ethel Park has the classic look of a residential tract in urban LA. Cottages from the 1920s sit shoulder to shoulder along tree-lined streets with sidewalks bordering each block. Most of the small cottages display Spanish-style architecture popularized in Southern California during that period. There are also Tudor-style and traditional tract cottages built between the 1920s and 1940s. Two-bedroom homes with less decorative traditional architecture range from $850,000 to $1 million. More spacious options and Spanish-style cottages with well-maintained stucco exteriors and tile roofs can cost $1 million to around $1.3 million.
