Dumas Junction
Midcentury bungalows out of Amarillo’s flood zone
Dumas Junction is filled with bungalows and ranch-style homes under 1,500 square feet. The neighborhood mainly has properties built in the 1950s, which are popular choices for buyers looking for a fixer-upper to upgrade themselves. The average price range for homes here is $100,000 to $200,000. While Amarillo is known for high winds and unpredictable storms, Dumas Junction is safely outside of the city’s flood plain. The local streets are neat and organized and tend to be flat, allowing residents to walk easily to nearby businesses or community churches like Christian Heritage Church on South Nelson Street and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Southeast 11th Avenue.
Friday night lights shine at Dick Bivins Stadium
Dumas Junction is within the well-rated Amarillo Independent School District. Emerson Elementary School has an A-minus on Niche, while Bowie Middle School and Caprock High School are both B-rated. Dick Bivins Stadium, the home stadium for Amarillo ISD, is in Dumas Junction. In addition to football and soccer games, the multimillion-dollar stadium hosts the Amarillo Relays event, one of the top student track and field meets in the state. Amarillo College, which Niche named one of the top community colleges in Texas, is 3 miles from the neighborhood.Midway fun at the Tri-State Fair
Amarillo Tri-State Exposition on Southeast 10th Street is one of the largest event venues in Amarillo. The Tri-State Fair is the exposition center’s signature event and is held every fall with midway rides, livestock shows and a rodeo. “Fair time is a big deal in the Panhandle,” says Brady Ragland, CEO of the Tri-State Fairgrounds and a lifelong Panhandle local. “Fairs are big community events, and we like to have events and deals for our seniors, our children, our veterans.” The exposition center hosts smaller rodeo events and livestock shows throughout the rest of the year.Dumas Junction is also the home base for the American Quarter Horse Association, which is dedicated to breeding and keeping one of America’s most influential horse breeds. The Association operates the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame on East Interstate Drive, with bronze horse statues, interactive exhibits for children and a quiet reading room.

Interstates 27 and 40 connect the entire tri-state area
Dumas Junction is only 2 miles from downtown Amarillo, putting it right in the city's center. This location also puts it next to the intersection of I-27 and I-40, which connect Amarillo to Albuquerque, Oklahoma City and the rest of Texas. The neighborhood is 7 miles from the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport and 8 miles from Amarillo’s medical district, with large hospitals like Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Amarillo and Amarillo VA Health Care System. Dumas Junction is in the Amarillo City Transit Route 30 service area, one of the city's two major bus routes.Skating and baseball at Martin Road Park
The neighborhood has a few small parks between its markets, museums and rail yards. El Alamo Park on South Houston Street and East Park on Ross Street both have playgrounds and splash pads surrounded by a block of green space. There are more park options on the other side of Route 66, like Martin Road Park and Gene Howe Park on Dale Street. These neighboring parks surround a large pond with a skatepark, a baseball field and barbequing spots.Close to downtown Amarillo’s dining options
Thanks to its proximity to downtown, Dumas Junction is close to plenty of dining options. Napoli’s on South Taylor Street, a traditional Italian eatery, is just one of many downtown restaurants. Closer to the heart of Dumas Junction, the streets along I-40 have several casual sit-down Mexican spots, like El Charro Mexican Restaurant and El Tejavan I-40 East. Sam’s Club on Ross Osage Drive is the largest neighborhood grocery store, and there are two nearby Walmart locations on East Interstate Drive and Southwest 34th Avenue.
