Angleton is filled with open pastures and shady oaks, offering a slow lifestyle at the heart of Brazoria County. "Everything is a little bit spaced out. I personally like it because I was born and raised in Houston [which is more crowded]," says Realtor Cipriana Torres of Adams Homes Realty, who's lived here for a few years. Located 45 miles from downtown Houston and 20 miles from the beach in Freeport, Angleton is growing. New developments include a park, restaurants and several communities. The city's population is also increasing by slightly more than 1% annually, totaling just over 20,000 residents. Hospitality, civil engineering construction and chemical manufacturing are Angleton's leading industries.

The Dirty South is a local favorite
Chains and local eateries line highways and main roads in Angleton. "A lot of the locals go to The Dirty South because it has entertainment during the week, and they have good food," Torres says. The city is working to bring in more businesses and debuted Starbucks in 2022 and a new pizza spot called The Crust Pizzeria in 2023. Torres says retail is limited, so most locals head to the Brazos Mall in Lake Jackson, 10 miles away.
