A West Midtown neighborhood next to Georgia Tech
Hugging the north side of the Georgia Institute of Technology campus is Home Park, a residential area with college town staples like taco shops and pizza parlors. The growing Atlanta neighborhood of contemporary homes and 20th-century residences is an attractive choice for students, faculty and commuters who want easy access to major highways.
College kids rent apartments on the western side and dine at casual spots like Firehouse Subs or Sublime Doughnuts, a 24-hour bakery. Locals also live within walking distance of retail stores. “There’s so much to do,” says Katy Kosari, an agent with Engel and Volkers Atlanta who has lived there since 2001. “It’s a growing area. People keep moving to Atlanta for jobs at Georgia Tech and Emory University. So much goes on in that area.” Home Park sits directly south of Atlantic Station, a busy mixed-use development with national retail brands, apartment towers and condos.

Students hang out at Rocky Mountain Pizza Co., which bills itself as “The Georgia Tech Bar.” The sports bar is known for comedy and trivia nights in addition to menu items like wings and pizza. Students and locals kick back at Ormsby’s, where the burgers and cocktails are more upscale. Barcelona Wine Bar has become popular for its various wines and outdoor seating. To the north is Atlantic Station, home to the open-air mall of the same name. The shopping hub contains cafes, burger joints and stores like Publix Super Market, Banana Republic and Target.

Year-round, Piedmont Park spans 185 acres and has tons of green space. The park is a well-visited destination for events like concerts, art festivals and farmers markets. The Atlanta Botanical Garden and its 30 acres of flowers and plants are 2 miles away. Conveniently, Home Park residents only need to take a short stroll to the university to get their fix of nature. “The Georgia Tech campus is just like one big giant park,” says Dawn Landau, an associate broker with Keller Williams Midtown Atlanta. “The campus is really pretty and has lots of hang-out areas.”

I have had a generally positive experience in Home Park. I like how cheap the rent is and how convenient it is being in the heart of midtown Atlanta. The quality of the houses that I've lived in here could be improved but the conditions are to be expected with such cheap rent. The thing that I would like to see improve the most is security or the sense of safety.
