Cary Woods
Varying price points and renovation status
Tall pine trees line the streets of Cary Woods, shading the neighborhood’s narrow streets and large suburban lots. Built as early as the 1960s or as recently as the 2010s, homes vary in style, with ranch, farmhouse and split-level builds most common. “There’s a wide variety of price points,” Fuller says. “Some of them have really beautiful acre lots, and there are some that are less nice that developers are waiting to try to buy.” Homes sell between the $500,000s and mid-$700,000s, as more recent builds or renovations tend to hover near the top of the range.High marks for Auburn schools
Cary Woods kids attend the highly-rated Auburn City Schools system, starting at Cary Woods Elementary. The kindergarten through second-grade school is rated an A-plus by Niche. The A-rated Pick Elementary serves third through fifth grade, before students head to J.F. Drake Middle for sixth and East Samford School for seventh, with each receiving an A. For eighth and ninth grade, Auburn Junior High also receives an A. Meanwhile, the A-rated Auburn High School is ranked as the 12th-best public high school in the state by Niche.Cheering on the Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium
The city of Auburn puts on plenty of events throughout the year, many of which take over downtown. Holiday celebrations are popular with families, including a “Downtown Trick or Treat” for Halloween. But the biggest events occur on fall Saturdays when the Auburn Tigers take the field. A mile and a half from the neighborhood, Jordan-Hare Stadium seats over 88,000 fans. Gameday traffic backs up throughout the city, increasing travel times.Easy access to downtown Auburn
While Cary Woods feels removed from the action of downtown Auburn, the heart of the town is just a mile away. The Hound’s elevated pub fare and Auburn Draft House’s large beer selection are favorites throughout the area. Meanwhile, the other direction on College Street, The Shoppes at Cary Creek has a Publix for food and other essentials.Playing at Hickory Dickory Park
Families in Cary Woods often head just north of the neighborhood to Hickory Dickory Park, which features a playground themed to the nursery rhyme along with a large lawn for kids to run around in. But for most recreation, residents head outside the neighborhood. During the summer, the city of Auburn operates the Samford Pool two miles from Cary Woods, with $2 admission per person. The Frank Brown Recreation Center is only a mile from the neighborhood and has both a fitness center and a basketball gym.Transit options through Auburn
Just north of downtown Auburn, Cary Woods sits about a mile from the university campus, where many residents work. Those affiliated with Auburn University can take Tiger Transit, a school-run bus system throughout the city, while others can utilize the Dial-A-Ride service to schedule a ride from Lee-Russell Public Transit. A mile in the other direction, Shug Jordan Parkway acts as a beltway for the city, taking residents to the other side of the city and the area’s main thoroughfare, Interstate 85. While other regional airports are closer, residents often choose to fly out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is 100 miles northeast on I-85 and offers flights to over 150 U.S. cities and over 70 international destinations.
