Side Creek

Courts, fields and walking trails
Aurora Sports Park is one of the city's most prominent sports complexes just north of the base. With 220 acres of baseball diamonds and soccer fields, the park is always busy with youth and adult soccer leagues and Little League games on the weekends. Closer to home, Great Plains Park gets some attention, too, with its large playground, walking trails and splash pad. Sharing its name with the neighborhood, Side Creek Park backs up to many houses. It is home to a basketball court, tennis courts, and a sizeable multiuse field with nets and a backstop, perfect for playing catch or tossing a Frisbee.Local restaurants alongside massive malls
Some small shopping plazas line Buckley Road, like the Aurora Highlands Shopping Center. Piazza's is a highly-rated restaurant in the plaza, which doubles as an American Italian restaurant and a popular sports tavern with a long bar, plenty of TV screens, and pool tables. Closer to home, Thai Bite of Fusion serves authentic Thai food in a no-frills, light-filled dining room. Stir-fry, drunken noodles and rice dishes make up some of the staples, and a rotating menu of specials keeps the selection fresh. A Safeway is just west of the neighborhood for grocery trips, but residents looking for a day of shopping can travel a short 4 miles to Town Center, a massive mall of Aurora.New developments supplement homes from the 80s
Split-level homes from the 1980s fill the tree-lined, winding streets of the neighborhood that often end in cul-de-sacs. Colorful wood and brick sidings with white trim give the houses a midcentury modern look, and pristine landscaping adds some dimension to the modest yards backed by privacy fences and small patios. Less expensive than in other Aurora areas, Side Creek's houses range from $400,000 to $600,000. "Aurora is rapidly growing east. They're building around the airport and adding housing to the city because there was a shortage prior," Livingston says. To accommodate the growing population, townhouses and condos have been added to the residential streets, including the new Urban Collection development along Andes Circle. The units range anywhere from $200,000 to $500,000, depending on amenities, size and year built.Highly diverse schools of Side Creek
Walkable for some residents is Side Creek Elementary, rated a C by Niche. Also rated a C is Mrachek Middle School, where most students continue learning before heading to Rangeview High School. Rated a B-plus, the high school has a high level of diversity and a range of activities and athletics. The middle school and high school are right next to each other, so dropping off the kids takes one less stop than usual for families with a range of ages.Getting to work and getting around
Livingston says, "It's a quieter part of town, heading towards where the area becomes rural." However, the suburban nook is close to nearby highways and entertainment options in the city. Downtown Denver is 19 miles away, and Denver International Airport is about 18 miles north. Those who prefer to leave their cars at home can hop on one of the buses along Tower Road, leading to retail and the many hospitals towards the west.
