Tarrytown
A wide range of housing options
Given that the neighborhood dates back to 1934, it’s perhaps not surprising that many homes in Tarrytown are historic, including the Walsh house, built in 1926. Many more recently built homes were designed to fit the historic ethos of the neighborhood. There are also plenty of condominiums and townhouses, as well as sleek, contemporary single-family homes available. The median price of real estate in Tarrytown is just over $2 million, and buyers should be prepared to pay an average of $692 per square foot.Condo prices can range from $325,000 for a two-bedroom/one-bathroom up to $1 million for a three-bedroom/three-bathroom. Townhouse prices go from $1.2 million for a four-bedroom/four-bathroom up to $2.25 million for a five-bedroom/seven-bathroom. Single-family home prices start at $1 million for a three-bedroom/two-bath bungalow and go up to $4.7 million for a five-bedroom/six-bathroom Mediterranean-inspired contemporary.

Henry Middle and Austin High School. Casis earns an A rating from Niche, O. Henry earns an A-minus and Austin High School gets an A. Alternatively, parents can avail themselves of several nearby private schools, including St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, rated the best private school in the Austin area by Niche. An active outdoor community
For residents of Tarrytown, staying active is second nature, no pun intended. With the Colorado River as its western boundary, the neighborhood affords residents easy access to kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, fishing or just relaxing on the riverbank. Golfers can hit the links at Lions Municipal Golf Club, and dog lovers can take their furry family members to explore and socialize at Red Bud Isle, a 13-acre off-leash dog park. There are also multiple community parks within Tarrytown, including Mayfield Park, a tree-shaded urban oasis and home to several peacocks who freely roam the grounds. Parents will also find playgrounds for kids, walking trails and picnic tables at both Reed Park and Tarrytown Neighborhood Park. For cooling off during the hot Austin summer, there’s no better place than Deep Eddy pool, the oldest public swimming pool in Texas and home to a bathhouse built during the Great Depression.
World-class cultural opportunities and local events
It's not all just outdoor entertainment in Tarrytown, though. The neighborhood is also home to The Contemporary Austin, a trio of art-related venues. Bringing together a museum featuring the works of world-renowned contemporary artists, the Betty and Edward Marcus Sculpture Park and the Laguna Gloria Art School, The Contemporary Austin is a magnet for artists and art aficionados. On Saturday mornings during the summer, The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd hosts a farmer’s market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tarrytown also outs on an annual Fourth of July parade featuring festively decorated vehicles, marching bands and dance teams. When the winter holiday season rolls around, Mozart's Coffee Roasters presents live music, photo opportunities and much more at their riverside location.
Neighborhood shopping
The centrally located Casis Shopping Center is a Tarrytown mainstay. It’s the site of Randall’s Grocery Store and Tarrytown Pharmacy, which opened its doors in 1941. The pharmacy is where former Dallas Cowboys legend Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson bought not just one but two multimillion-dollar-winning lottery tickets.Quintessential Austin dining
Despite the relatively upscale nature of Tarrytown, the dining scene in the neighborhood runs the gamut from riverside casual to more upscale. The restaurants at Oyster Landing Marina – including Mozart’s Coffee Roasters and Hula Hut – feature a range of offerings that highlight fresh seafood and specialty cocktails. For a little more elevated cuisine, The Beer Plant is a perfect neighborhood spot for date night or other special dinners. And because of the neighborhood’s central location and proximity to the MoPac Expressway, the shops and restaurants of downtown Austin are just a short drive away.
No need to tarry getting around Tarrytown
MoPac Expressway, a major thoroughfare, marks the neighborhood’s eastern border. For those who prefer not to drive, Capital Metro has multiple stops in the southern part of the neighborhood, offering service to the greater Austin area. Downtown Austin is 3 miles to the south; the University of Texas campus is 4 miles to the east.
