Green space in the heart of Charm City
Blocks of red brick Victorian row houses surround 130 acres of green space in Patterson Park, a historic neighborhood in the heart of Baltimore. The community is tied together by its namesake park, reminiscent of New York’s Central Park but on a smaller scale. Charm City’s distinct flavor is on full display here, where neighbors are never far from the nightlife of Fells Point, the food vendors of Northeast Market and the incomparable Johns Hopkins Hospital. Whether prospective buyers want to wander beneath the leafy canopy in the park itself or simply observe the world from their rooftop deck, they can do so in Patterson Park.
The jewel of Patterson Park neighborhood is the namesake green space, covering 295 acres.

Streets of Baltimore row houses
Patterson Park is a densely populated neighborhood, with tightly packed homes lining the streets. “Everything is row houses,” says Brian DiNardo, a Realtor with Garner and Co. and a 23-year resident of Patterson Park. “There’s not a detached home in the area. They were originally designed for the upper crust of Baltimore society in the early 1900s, so the rooftop views from the houses on Baltimore Street are some of the best in the city.” Locals lucky enough to own a house with a rooftop deck are treated to bird’s-eye views of Charm City and the Patapsco River as it feeds into the bay. Prices in the neighborhood begin around $150,000, rising as high as $620,000 for newly renovated park-side properties.

The defining feature of Patterson Park
The neighborhood takes its name from the nearby green space, one of the largest and best-known in Baltimore. “Patterson Park is the best park in the city,” DiNardo says. “It has a pool, an ice rink, basketball courts and the observatory. There’s a boat lake in the middle. There are historic cannons in front of the pagoda from when the British sailed into the harbor in 1812. Everyone loves living by it, and everyone who lives here uses it daily.” On summer days, locals enjoy family gatherings at the park’s picnic pavilions while children romp around the Castle Playground, watched over by the towering pagoda, which serves as an observatory that opens for occasional events.

After a day in the park, head to Bmore Licks for a frosty treat.
Dining in Charm City
Residents can shop for groceries at the Safeway on Lakewood Avenue, south of the neighborhood by the waterfront. While mostly residential, small restaurants have begun popping up in recent years. “Dilone Grocery and Restaurant is a Central American spot at the end of Lakewood and Fayette,” DiNardo says. “It’s got such a wonderful menu. You can’t believe you’re getting goat and pig’s feet.” For more conventional fare, residents can head to Blue Point Crab House on Orleans Street, where they can indulge in classic Maryland seafood options like crab cake sandwiches and steam pots covered with Old Bay. For frozen treats, locals head to Bmore Licks, a homegrown ice cream shop on the harbor side of the park known for inventive flavors like honey baklava and Cuban coffee Oreo.
To Fells Point or the Inner Harbor
While options within the neighborhood are limited, Patterson Park is not far from Charm City’s action. “We may not have very many restaurants or venues, but we are only a mile walk from Fells Point,” DiNardo says. Fells Point is a nightlife hub of Baltimore, where bands play live music nightly in one of the restaurants that line South Broadway. From here, it is an easy 2-mile walk around the Inner Harbor to Camden Yards for Orioles games or to the Maryland Science Center, where locals can catch the latest blockbusters on the largest IMAX movie screen in the state.
