Bexley is a city within a city, located just 3.4 miles from downtown Columbus with its own government, schools and culture. Streets are lined with mature trees, and the city is full of historical buildings — from the local theater to the community center that used to be a mansion. “People want to get to know their neighbors,” says Realtor Terri Barnett, who is also the part-time owner of RE/MAX National Land Advisory Group located in the heart of Bexley. “You’ll often find that neighbors are lifelong friends.”

Tudor and Colonial houses on landscaped lawns
Bexley offers a wide range of architectural styles, from Tudor Revivals to brick-and-siding Colonial Revivals. Regardless of what style homebuyers want, they can expect homes to sit on lush green lawns enhanced with landscaping and mature trees. Streets have sidewalks on both sides, and streetlamps. Two-car garages are common, though many are tucked behind the homes so as not to distract from the front façade. Residents can access their garages through narrow back streets in between rows of houses. Bexley’s housing diversity doesn’t stop at architectural styles. “Homes will go for anywhere from $2 to $3 million down to $300,000,” Barnett says.

Parades and block parties in Bexley
Bexley residents can head into the city center to attend Columbus events, but there’s also plenty happening right in the community. On the Fourth of July, residents can watch or participate in the town’s annual parade. “The only requirement to be in the parade is that you have your bicycle decorated,” Barnett says. In the fall, the meadow behind Jeffrey Mansion hosts the Harvest Festival, where locals can enjoy a corn maze, a bonfire and games. The city also supports neighborhood celebrations with a trailer full of party supplies. “Whenever you’d like to have a block party, just let them know, and they’ll give you the blockages and the games,” Barnett says.
