Wonderland
Lakes, trails and recreational facilities
Wonderland Lake Park is the main recreational draw for the neighborhood. Its protected wetlands have become a wildlife sanctuary for migratory birds. Wonderland Lake Loop Trail is a multi-use path that surrounds the water. The City of Boulder maintains the trail for ADA Compliance, ensuring the smooth surface is mobility friendly. “They do their very best to make sure it’s accessible to everyone, including people who use wheelchairs,” Delaney says. The park allows lake fishing and has a launch site for hang gliding and paragliding.Additionally, Foothills Community Park is nearby with multiple recreational facilities. There’s a playground and picnic shelters, plus a soccer field, pickleball court and inline hockey rink. On the far end of the park, the non-profit Growing Gardens has a community garden next to the dog park. Maxwell Park sits south of Wonderland Lake at the edge of the neighborhood and has a smaller lake surrounded by tall grass.
Streets lined with single-family homes
Homes in Wonderland are lined together on residential streets and cul-de-sacs, surrounded by mature trees. Properties come with manicured, grassy lawns and driveways that lead to attached garages. Contemporary multi-story homes built in the 1970s through 1990s are common, with a variety of architectural styles. There are homes with farmhouse features such as front porches, and others with a sleek, modern design and dark trim. Craftsman-inspired homes have multiple front gables, stone accents and large picture windows. Most of these properties span 2,500 to 4,800 square feet and are priced between $1.8 million and $3.2 million, depending on square footage. Additionally, there are a handful of multi-story townhouses in the neighborhood with New Traditional architecture. These homes span 1,500 to 1,800 square feet and cost $755,000 to $925,000.The Wonderland neighborhood is divided into multiple subdivisions, including Wonderland Hills, Wonderland Lake and Quail. Wonderland Hills has tennis courts and an outdoor community pool. Multiple homeowners associations within the neighborhood assist with property maintenance.
Shops and restaurants along Broadway
While the neighborhood itself lacks commercial spaces, Wonderland is close to shopping and dining. At the intersection of Quince Avenue and Broadway, there’s a shopping center with multiple local restaurants and businesses. Dagabi Cucina serves Spanish-inspired tapas and wood-fired pizza, while Lucky’s Bakehouse Cafe specializes in healthy comfort food. Lucky’s Market is a neighborhood grocery store selling locally sourced produce and products. For more options, Community Plaza Shopping Center is about 2 miles south on Broadway. There’s Beleza Coffee Bar for a morning pick-me-up, and Sweet Cow for ice cream. Downtown Boulder is nearly a half mile south of there, with other retail and restaurant options.Highly rated Boulder Valley schools
Families living in the Wonderland neighborhood can send their kids to schools within the Boulder Valley School District. “There are really good public schools with high ratings and really good private schools too,” Delaney says. Foothill Elementary earns an A grade from Niche and has an outdoor learning center outfitted with a community garden. Centennial Middle School has an A-minus grade. Boulder High School maintains an A and provides career pathways programs for business, teaching and visual and performing arts. Those interested in private school for their kids can send them to Shining Mountain Waldorf School, which teaches kindergarten through 12th grade and earns a B-plus Niche rating.Getting around and beyond Wonderland
Wonderland’s many multi-use trails make it easy to walk and bike around the neighborhood. These paved pathways connect to the lake area and run past people’s backyards. When it comes to commuting, there are multiple Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus lines that travel the area, with stops along Broadway. Those who drive can access US Route 36, also known as 28th Street, about 2 miles east of the neighborhood. The Denver International Airport is 44 miles away for commercial flights.Taking chances to live near nature
While Wonderland Lake Park is a recreational draw to the neighborhood, the abundance of trees, thick vegetation and grassy fields may put the area at risk for potential wildfires. To combat this, there are multiple fire stations within a 3-mile radius of Wonderland: Stations One and Five with the City of Boulder’s Fire-Rescue Department, plus Station One with the Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District.
