About Camp Hill, PA

About Camp Hill, PA

A neighborhood meant for walking

Well-known for its historic homes and walkable shops and restaurants, Camp Hill is one of the most pedestrian boroughs in the Harrisburg region. “The homes in Camp Hill are super cute and beautiful,” says Realtor Laurel Windsor with Berkshire Hathaway HS Homesale Realty. “You’re close to all kinds of shopping, restaurants and health care,” she says. Camp Hill also offers residents quick access to most areas of Pennsylvania's capital city, located on the West Shore of the Susquehanna River, opposite Downtown Harrisburg and next to the Capital Beltway. With its homes, amenities and location, Camp Hill offers a unique blend of convenience and charm.

Shops and restaurants blocks away

Often called the hub of the West Shore, Camp Hill features dozens of shops, eateries and entertainment options along Market Street, the borough’s downtown commercial district. Coffee and tea connoisseurs will love the selection at One Good Woman. Chef de Crepe, a French-inspired creperie, is just down the street, as are several other restaurants, like Watershed Pub, which serves craft beer and locally sourced dishes in a huge brick colonial with a wrap-around porch, or Cornerstone Coffeehouse, which features work by local artists. Residents can pick up groceries at Giant Food or a bestseller at Barnes and Noble in the Camp Hill Shopping Center. For clothes, furniture and accessories, Boscov’s next door has been in business for over 100 years, the largest family-owned department store in the U.S. Big box stores, chain restaurants and the AMC Classic Hampden 8 cinemas are just a few miles west along Route 11.

Classic homes on rolling hills

Many single-family homes in Camp Hill were built in the early to mid-1900s and include Craftsman-style houses, bungalows, colonials and Cape Cods. Midcentury modern ranch-style homes are common, too, sometimes built into hillsides with views of the Susquehanna. Camp Hill gets its name from the rolling hills of its topography. “The homes here are charming and close to everything,” Windsor says. “You can walk out your front door and visit the library, parks and restaurants. It’s highly sought after for its old-school convenience.” Homeowners can expect to pay between $150,000 and $725,000 for a home here. Townhouses are also available, listing for between $200,000 and $350,000.

Also in May, the Plein Air (meaning “in the open air”) Art Walk is on Market Street, and the Harvest Hop takes place in October, encouraging locals to visit downtown Camp Hill businesses.

Parks, water and community centers

Siebert Park, where the Camp Hill High School football stadium is located, features a sizeable public swimming pool, a playground and a wooded area with trails. Residents can access Conodoguinet Creek nearby, a favorite of kayakers. The borough’s athletics facilities surrounding the Camp Hill United Methodist Church also offer baseball fields, tennis courts and soccer fields.
