Middle Creek is a fast-growing large, rural community in Cary, North Carolina, right outside of North Carolina’s Research Triangle of Duke, Chapel Hill and Raleigh.
Most of the housing stock in the neighborhood consists of ranch-style homes and cottages equipped with two-car garages, butler’s pantries, covered front porches and tankless water heaters. Buyers may also find craftsman and traditional homes. Perched on small lots of 12,630 square feet, most dwellings are about 3,140 square feet. Home buyers will find that prices for single-family homes range from $359,000 to $1.8 million, while townhouses and condos sit in the $380,000 range. In the walkable and bikeable neighborhood, the tall trees beside the road shade many of the sidewalks where residents can stroll, run or walk their dogs. Realtor LaDonna Carter says buyers burned through the available inventory in the Fuquay-Varina neighborhood — she sold 100 homes within the past calendar year. In the Beaver Creek Crossings neighborhood, located in the heart of Middle Creek, there is a mix of modest homes and million-dollar mansions. The neighborhood HOA paints the exterior of the houses every eight years and replaces roofs every 15 years. All yards have a fence provided by the HOA as well. Most houses are separated by 6 feet. HOA fees can be as much as $100 a month. For those who prefer not having the guidance of HOA rules, the Heatherstone subdivision is highly sought after. “Middle Creek has seen a spike in growth. There were only a handful of homes — now there are 150,000,” Hamlett says. Hamlett says homes in Middle Creek sometimes spend only three days on the market, adding that. The growth of Middle Creek began around 2000. Those seeking places of worship will have more than 30 to choose from.
The Wake County Public Schools district manages these schools. Niche gives the three schools and system an A. West Lake Elementary and Middle Schools, both located on West Lake Road, are in the neighborhood, making it a convenient 5 to 10-minute walk to school. Middle Creek High School students have access to Middle Creek Park and have tennis courts and a public library next to the school. Joshua Vick, who has sold homes for 8 years for Team Anderson Realty, says schools are a big draw for the community due to the quality of education the students receive. College students can attend Wake Technical Community College on the southeast side of Highway 401. Duke, NC State and UNC Chapel Hill are among 14 local universities.
Vick says the parks in the area are also a big draw. Crowder District Park has a playground, an amphitheater for concerts and performances and a wooden boardwalk surrounding Crowder Pond in the woods. The 140-acre Hemlock Bluffs State Recreation Area, which overlooks Jake Lake, is also one of North Carolina's top wildlife preserves where residents can bird and wildlife watching. The 105-acre Middle Creek Park has a community center, softball complex, multipurpose fields, tennis courts and walking trails and serves as the campus for Middle Creek High School. In 2008, an intermediate, 19-hole disc golf course was added to 30 acres of the park. There are a few other smaller parks and green spaces throughout Middle Creek’s subdivisions. Those who like pickleball can play at the Middle Creek Community Center. Vick says residents come out in droves to play.
The main shopping areas are Kildaire Farm Road and Ten-Ten Road. Harris Teeter, Publix and more restaurants are nearby. “The neighborhood is a mile from everything,” Carter says. Waverly Place Shopping Center is on North Middle Creek. This commercial area near WakeMed Cary Hospital has around 30 stores, restaurants, beauty salons and gyms. Danny's Bar-B-Que serves Texas-toast sandwiches and Lucky 32 Southern Kitchen serves farm-to-table food. CMX CineBistro on Waverly Place serves up entrees, popcorn and drinks for those attending the movie complex.
