With homes featuring heating systems powered by active solar panels and water recycling systems, environmentally savvy homebuyers flocking to the Red Hawk community, situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, will find their dream home. That is, if the inventory is there. “It’s a great lifestyle living there and eco-friendly with scenic views,” explains Jackie Garcia, a Realtor with RE/MAX Professionals with more than two decades of experience selling homes in and around Denver. “Red Hawk is in high demand, so there is hardly ever any inventory.” With the rolling peaks of the Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course providing a stunning backdrop, Lennar continues to build custom homes in the area to try and match demand. The average price for a home in Red Hawk is $800,000, ranging from $455,000 to $1.2 million. According to Garcia, an additional eco-friendly aspect of Red Hawk discourages having a lawn unless it is synthetic to conserve water. “The biggest draw to Colorado is the lifestyle,” Garcia explains. “And when I say that, I mean the healthy lifestyle.” With multiple trails winding through the community, joggers, bikers and runners utilize the paths in droves.

The Douglas County School District No. RE-1, which Garcia says is a highly-rated school system, serves this neighborhood. Niche rated the school system an A-minus. The student-to-teacher ratio in the school system is 18-to-1. Clear Sky Elementary School has nearly 700 students and is a Niche-rated B-plus school. Castle Rock Middle School, the second stop in the pipeline, is rated B-plus by Niche. This middle school keeps its students with activities like the Rock Climbing Club. The Unified Sports Club at Castle View High School is a group of students who help students with disabilities play sports like kickball, whiffle ball and basketball. The high school is rated a B-plus by Niche.

As Garcia says, living in this neighborhood provides many opportunities to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Castle Rock features 87 miles of trails, 50 parks and more than 6,000 acres of open space. The Incline at Castle Rock is a loop trail that starts with a 200-step to Challenge Hill. The Incline is a favorite for those who like a vigorous outdoor workout. Stunning views of Pike’s Peak and Longs Peak can be observed while hiking the trail. The EDGE Ziplines & Adventures, which is also in Castle Rock, provides outdoor enthusiasts zip lining and a Ninja course, similar to types seen on Ninja Warrior television shows. Hikers and history buffs will enjoy Castlewood Canyon’s trails along the Cherry Creek. One hiking trail leads to the remnants of the Castlewood Dam, which burst in 1933. One of the newer parks, Possibilities Playground at Butterfield Crossing Park, is an inclusive park for children of all abilities. Even canine companions can get in on the park action — the Wiggly Field Dog Park is conveniently located on Meadows Boulevard.

The Castle Café’s roots date back to 1890 and has been serving comfort food like buffalo meatloaf, their twist on the comfort food favorite. The pork belly BLT at Union, served on a toasty hoagie goes perfectly with the bistro’s Pueblo green chili. With its extensive bourbon menu, the Whiskey Lodge is an excellent spot for an after-dinner cocktail. The Promenade at Castle Rock, a 166-acre open-air mall, is also a multi-family residential complex. The mall has more than 1 million square feet of retail space with stores like Whole Foods, Starbucks and Home Depot.

Located minutes from I-25, Denver is a 30-minute commute. But people don’t move to this community because of its location. “It’s all about the views, the open spaces, the golf course and the hiking,” Garcia says.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
