Saturday morning little league and summer pool days
Carmel Road Park is the closest green space to Olde Providence at 3 1/2 miles away. This small community park offers a rentable pavilion, sports courts and a baseball field. It also features a well-kept playground shaded through mid-morning by a nearby wooded area. Dogs are welcome at the park as long as they remain outside of the playground area. Olde Providence Park is 4 miles away and offers similar but expanded amenities. Adjacent to Olde Providence Elementary, the park features various sports fields, from football to baseball, and three playgrounds. One playground is handicap accessible, while the other two have been remodeled in the past two years. Typically, there is plenty of parking at the park, except for on days when school events or Saturday morning little league practices and games occur. The park also has shady wooded trails for people to walk and jog. Residents also like to partake in nearby swimming and tennis recreation. Windyrush Country Club, just 3 miles away, is a local mainstay especially popular during Charlotte’s mild summer season. Members can access the club’s large Z-shaped pool and high-quality tennis facilities for casual fun or join one of its many swim and tennis teams. Five miles south, the private Cedarwood Country Club offers similar amenities alongside an almost 7,000-yard traditional golf course.

However, most locals take a 3-mile drive east to the booming SouthPark shopping mall, the largest shopping center in southern Charlotte. Getting around Olde Providence
North Carolina State Route 16, or Providence Road, borders Olde Providence to the east and is the area’s main thoroughfare. Taking 16 by car or bus leads locals directly to Uptown Charlotte, about 10 miles northwest. For more extensive travel, Charlotte Douglas International Airport is 13 miles away.
