Sought-after south Charlotte suburb along Little Sugar Creek
As Charlotte’s banking industry flourished in the 1980s, so did developers working to build suburbs in the woods southeast of Uptown amid a population boom. Park Crossing is one of the neighborhoods that came to be during this time, and it remains a popular choice for homebuyers decades later. This peaceful community, resting against Little Sugar Creek, offers spacious homes, a members-only recreation club and social neighbors who hang out regularly. Homes here are conveniently close to schools, highways, public transit and popular shopping destinations like SouthPark Mall.

Grand brick Colonial Revivals hugged by a thick canopy of trees
Tall mature trees line the boulevard at the manicured entrance of Park Crossing. The stately feel continues into the neighborhood, where wide streets wind over gentle hills. Single-family homes rest on spacious lots neatly landscaped with ornamental trees, shapely shrubs and blossoming flower beds. Large, red-brick Colonial Revivals, often Georgian-inspired, are most common. Topped with chimneys and a trio of dormer windows, these four and five-bedroom homes are adorned with ornate entryways and attached garages. Prices start at $700,000 and can top $1 million. There are also smaller ranch-style homes with covered front porches between $375,000 and $600,000 and one to two-bedroom townhouses from $230,000 to $350,000. Properties usually come with monthly homeowners association fees that range from under $100 to nearly $300. As with many popular south Charlotte neighborhoods, housing is competitive. "The homes here don't come on the market often, but when they do, multiple offers are made quickly," says Jessica Lamb, a Charlotte native and Realtor with Keller Williams Ballantyne. She adds that homes sell within a week or two, often above the listing price. Potential buyers should note that some properties near Little Sugar Creek must be covered by flood insurance, according to FEMA flood maps.

Summer fun at Park Crossing Recreation Club
The neighborhood is home to Park Crossing Recreation Club, a one-stop-shop for exercise, recreation and community. Surrounded by trees, this summer hotspot feels tucked away, but it’s within walking distance of many homes. The large outdoor pool hosts a competitive swim team, and the six tennis courts are used for casual play, private lessons, clinics and a tennis league. The club also serves as a venue for many of the community's social activities and summer camps. Membership is separate from the homeowners association. The Little Sugar Creek Greenway meanders along the neighborhood's western edge, offering over 19 miles of scenic waterside trail for biking, running or walking. The smooth, paved pathway connects to several parks, including Huntingtowne Farms Park. This 23-acre green space features a soccer field, playground and a small community garden. Quail Hollow Club, home to one of the premier golf courses in Charlotte, is less than 4 miles away. It’s hosting the PGA Championship for the second time in 2025, which Cottingham & Chalk Realtor Lindsay Redfern says is a big event for the area. “Lots of locals rent out their homes for the golfers to use. Some of the restaurants will do concerts around it,” says Redfern, who lives in neighboring Quail Hollow.

Commuters catch a ride on the Lynx
While Charlotte is a car-centric community, public transit is popular for commuters. The Lynx Blue Line light rail station on South Boulevard is a short drive from the neighborhood. “Some residents like to park at the station and use the light rail to commute to Uptown for work,” Lamb says. Uptown is about 10 miles away. Charlotte Area Transit System, or CATS, serves the neighborhood along the main surrounding roads. Park Crossing also abuts the Interstate-485 loop, which circles the city and takes travelers to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, a less than 17-mile drive. Neighborhood paths connect to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, giving cyclists a car-free route for miles.

While Charlotte is very different from where I grew up, I love it here. There is a lot of growth happening in the area and I could see it continue to grow throughout the years. I can see that it is a great place to raise a family, and the cost of living is good. There are a lot of activities to do around the are. I would definitely choose to live here again.

We moved here in 1994, and our 3 year old son grew up here. We've lived the mix of couples, young families, retirees, and everything in between. We border the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, which used to be dense woods our son played in with friends. We're enjoying a few years now in retired life, until we find a location closer to family to downsize to. We've absolutely loved the community, the caring and camaraderie of the wonderful neighbors we've had!!
