About Crowley, TX

About Crowley, TX

Growing community south of Fort Worth

About 16 miles south of Fort Worth sits Crowley, a city marked by a beautifully mixed North Texas woodland and prairie landscape with lakeside proximity and soft rolling hills in the distance. Crowley was first formed in 1848 by early pioneers who chose to farm near the Deer Creek area until it became a railroad depot station in 1885 with the expansion of the Santa Fe Railway. The city’s namesake comes from the railroad’s master of transportation, S.H. Crowley. While residents can still hear the daily sounds of trains rolling along the vintage tracks, Crowley has evolved from a rural railway location into a more desirable place to call home. With a significant 54 percent increase in residents since 2010, Crowley’s population is currently around 20,000. Residents enjoy living in a city with less traffic, more open space, and neighbors who really get to know each other while being close enough to the hustle and bustle of other nearby DFW cities. Most residents commute to nearby Fort Worth for work.

Small in-town offerings with major dining and entertainment nearby

While Crowley provides in-town spots for everyday essentials, it isn’t known as a dining and entertainment hub. "You'll have to go to downtown Fort Worth or Clearport for that," says Rich Gardner, a local resident and Karis residential sales consultant. However, Crowley does have a smaller selection of dining options, including a few popular restaurants with cuisines ranging from Tex-Mex to Louisiana-influenced Cajun food. Stone Gate Plaza is Crowley’s main designated shopping area, with a Kroger for groceries and restaurants like Cousins BBQ, Wingstop and Chen’s Wok. Nearby Burleson provides additional offerings, with big box stores like Best Buy, national dining chains and an AMC movie theater along Interstate 35, sitting directly to the east of Crowley. Residents are a short drive from all the action. Locals can head 11 miles north to the Fort Worth Zoo. Pirates Cove Fun, located 10 miles north, is another family favorite destination for water park adventures. Sports fans are only 25 miles from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington to watch the Dallas Cowboys.

Easy driving accessibility is a significant draw to Crowley, as Interstate 35 conveniently sits directly to the east, and Chisholm Trail Parkway is to the west. The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is 35 miles away, while Fort Worth is 16 miles out. The Texas Health Huguley Hospital is about 4 miles away.

Crowley crime and weather

According to the Crowley Police Department, violent and property crimes increased year over year in 2023. Despite this, both rates were consistently lower than the state and national averages. With Crowley’s location in north Texas, it is prone to tornados and extreme heat during the summer. The area also experiences mild winters.
