Excellent schools and new homes in fast-growing Fort Wayne
Traveling through south Fort Wayne, the St. Marys River marks the border between the gridded urban streets and the winding residential roads. To the west of the river, residents come home to comfortable subdivisions, both new and old. But despite all the laidback suburbs that populate the area, don’t mistake Southwest Fort Wayne for being slow-paced. “It’s one of the fastest-growing areas in the city because it’s zoned to Southwest Allen County Schools, which is one of the best districts in Indiana,” says Andie Shepherd, a Realtor with Mike Thomas Associates and lifelong Fort Wayne resident. “It’s very low-crime, there are parks with trails and it’s near Jefferson Pointe Mall. It’s convenient for everything and popular with families.”
From new construction subdivisions to established luxury homes
Encompassing a broad swath of land that ranges from suburbs to farmland, the homes in Southwest Fort Wayne vary just as widely. Some fixer-uppers with two bedrooms can cost under $100,000, but there are also exclusive luxury homes with upwards of 5,000 square feet that list for $2.3 million. Despite the range of features and accompanying price points, the average home sells for about $310,000 and has three bedrooms. Like most of Fort Wayne, this area is expanding rapidly, meaning there are plenty of new constructions. Some new builds have Craftsmanlike flairs with prominent wooden beams, whereas ranch-style and contemporary homes are popular for established subdivisions. These planned communities tend to have quiet, winding roads that feature tidy sidewalks and a handful of mature trees to break up the lawns.

Take the kids to the Three Rivers Junction playground
Residents can get outdoors at Indian Trails Park, which has sports facilities ranging from soccer and football fields for local athletic teams to pickleball courts for a quick pickup match. It’s also home to an elaborate playground called the Three Rivers Junction, with a slide shaped like a train for toddlers and larger colorfully painted structures for older kids. Parents can watch from the center pavilion and go for a walk along the nature trails after. During summertime, locals bring chairs and picnic blankets to kick back at a Wednesday evening concert series. Or, when the weather is less seasonable, folks can still stay active indoors at the Jorgensen Family YMCA situated by the park.

It takes a lot of love to make pizza as good as the pizzaiolo at Three Fires Pizza.
Shop, eat and relax at Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center
Shopping and restaurants can be found along busy Illinois Road and Jefferson Boulevard. Residents can pick up groceries from Meijer and stock up on organic goods at the Fresh Market. The Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center is also just to the east, an outdoor mall with an AMC theater and lifestyle brands occupying Spanish-style storefronts. Chain and local restaurants alike cluster nearby; Three Fires Pizza is one favorite, a laidback pizzeria serving wood-fired Neapolitan pies alongside a selection of craft brews. For something more upscale, Umi is the go-to choice for date night. Its creative sushi rolls are almost as striking as the restaurant’s atmosphere, with modern wall lighting fixtures and a swanky bar.
Hop on Interstate 69 to get around Fort Wayne
With Interstate 69 running through the neighborhood, residents can get around the Fort Wayne area and beyond.
