Mosier Valley sits between Dallas and Fort Worth’s downtowns

The site of the Mosier Valley school, built a century ago to educate Black students, stands next to a contemporary subdivision and down the street from a concrete company. This junction illustrates the history and changes witnessed in Mosier Valley, a community founded after the Civil War by free African Americans and transformed 100 years later by the construction of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The neighborhood’s location near the airport and between Fort Worth and Dallas attracted warehouses and small factories, and, later, new neighborhoods. Surya Thapa, a Realtor with Vastu Realty, sold several homes in the Riverwalk community when it was built in 2022, and he says many buyers were families with one person who commuted to Dallas every day and another who drove to work in Fort Worth. “This is the middle point for both downtowns,” Thapa says.

New homes varying from gated communities to manufactured houses

Industrial parks and green spaces separate Mosier Valley’s subdivisions. Houses vary from the single-story, ranch-inspired homes in Lakeview Addition to the spacious Tudor- and Colonial-inspired houses behind the gate of TexStar Cove. Regardless of the subdivision, homes were typically developed after 2000 and come with small yards. Most houses were built outside the area’s flood zones, but some homeowners may need flood insurance. Most recently sold homes cost between $240,000 and $420,000. Houses on the east end, closer to the airport, have sold from $520,000 to $600,000. Dozens of manufactured homes fill the Harston Woods community. There’s only one recently sold manufactured home, which fetched $120,000.

Kids and adults play baseball, softball at The Parks at Texas Star

Mosier Valley’s historic school closed in the 1960s when the local school district desegregated, but the land where the schoolhouse stood will become a park. The city of Fort Worth expects to finish Mosier Valley Park in 2026, opening a green space with a playground and trail. More than a dozen baseball, softball and soccer fields sprawl across The Parks at Texas Star. The neighborhood recreation complex hosts baseball and softball leagues for kids and adults. That’s in addition to the track meets, flag football games and volleyball matches held at the site. Baseball fields neighbor the Texas Star Golf Course, an 18-hole course open to the public.

Quick access to DFW International Airport, Highway 10 and a train stat

It’s about 8 miles to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, where planes take off bound for one of more than 200 domestic and international destinations. Mosier Valley’s distance from the airport, along with the airport’s flight patterns, creates minimal plane noise for the neighborhood. Texas state Highway 10 passes along the northwest side of Mosier Valley as it extends east toward the airport and west to Interstate 820. The proximity to the highway is another draw to the neighborhood, Thapa says. Trinity Railway Express trains stop in Mosier Valley at the Bell station on their trips between the city centers of Dallas and Fort Worth, about 25 miles and 15 miles away, respectively.

Less than 2 miles outside the neighborhood, shopping centers along West Pipeline Road house Kroger, Dollar General and several churches, including Philadelphia Missionary Center-Dallas. Mosier Valley is also within 2 miles of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford.
