Northside is a historic Fort Worth community
The Fort Worth Stockyards sit on the eastern border of Northside, embodying the Texas city’s “Cowtown” moniker with longhorn drives down Exchange Avenue twice a day. The historic location pairs well with the rest of the Northside neighborhood, which consists of many century-old homes neatly laid out in a grid pattern close to Interstate 820. “I actually grew up there, so I would say it is a really family-oriented neighborhood,” says Anissa Ibarra, a Realtor with DeLeon & Associates Realty LLC. “There’s lots of culture and restaurants – family-owned restaurants – and it is a Hispanic culture there. I love it.” Whether residents want to stay close by and dine out along Exchange, Main Street or NW 28th Street; head to Downtown Fort Worth, just 6 miles away; or get outdoors at one of several parks folded into the Northside landscape, the amenities of Texas’ fifth-largest city are never far away.

Texas homes with a variety of build dates and styles
Northside offers an array of architecture, including ranch-style homes, Craftsmans, new traditional homes and bungalows. Property ages can vary across a wide range, with most of the homes in Northside built between the 1920s and 2020s. “A lot of the homes were older,” Ibarra says. “They demolished some of them and built a lot of new homes in the area … You’ll find a lot of remodeled homes as well.” Prices typically fall between $150,000 and $400,000. Some of the older homes have been passed down through the years. “Something I like about the area is there’s multi-generational living, which could be important to people who are more family oriented,” Ibarra says. Northside has a CAP Index crime score of 5 out of 10, slightly higher than the national average of 4.

Green spaces offer recreation in the Northside community
Just north, Marine Creek Lake is a hub for catching bass or catfish. The no-wake body of water also draws kayakers and paddleboarders. In southeastern Northside, Marine Park offers green spaces encircled by winding walkways, as well as a playground and sports facilities. Visitors can also jump in the pool during warmer months or hit the skate park. “They have events there sometimes,” Ibarra says. “They’ll have low-rider car shows there and motorcycle meet-ups.” Buck Sansom Park spans more than 100 acres with two ballfields and access to the Trinity Trail system. The trails encompass over 100 miles along the Trinity River; its West Fork runs along the south side of the community. Rockwood Park Golf Course has three public championship layouts.

International restaurants and staple saloons in Northside
Northside has an array of restaurants. Diners can stop at Los Paisanos or Byblos Mediterranean Restaurant along Main Street for international fare, or head to the Stockyards for more options, including Cattlemen’s Steak House and Second Rodeo Brewing. Urban cowboys can two-step the night away at the world-famous Billy Bob’s Texas, billed as “the world’s largest honky-tonk.” On the eastern edge of the neighborhood is legendary Joe T. Garcia’s, and Angelo’s barbecue sits just south . South of the Trinity River, the 7th Street corridor is a popular destination for upscale shopping. Target and Walmart are both within 3 miles of central Northside.

Driving around Fort Worth on Interstate 820
Interstate 820 encircles part of Fort Worth and makes up the north border of the neighborhood. Downtown Fort Worth is around 6 miles or less from most parts of Northside. “It’s really easy to get downtown and also to 7th Street, which is another really popular area for nightlife and restaurants,” Ibarra says. “You have access to 35W there from a couple of intersections. It’s easy to travel.” Trinity Metro buses serve the community, with stops along routes like Texas State Highway 199, Main Street and NW 28th Street. Trinity Metro trains stop at North Side Station. In the northwest corner of the neighborhood, Fort Worth Meacham International Airport hosts charter flights. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is less than 25 miles northeast.
Cattle herds and nightclub atmospheres in Northside attractions
The Fort Worth Cattle Drive takes place twice a day in the Fort Worth Stockyards, with Texas longhorns herded down Exchange Avenue. The event continues the area’s role in the cattle industry, which it has been a part of since 1874. “The Stockyards are a major tourist area,” Ibarra says. “You have the cattle wrangle and rodeo shows, so that has become very popular. You also have nightlife right there and concerts at Billy Bob’s Texas.” The Fort Worth Aviation Museum and the Vintage Flying Museum educate visitors on air travel.
