Brice Street Area
Plenty of dining options on Spring Garden Street and Walker Avenue
Along Spring Garden Street and Walker Avenue, locals can find most of the restaurants and small businesses. According to Messick, the intersection of Walker and Elam avenues is known as “Four Corners” or “The Corner,” and it’s a hot spot for residents to grab a bite to eat or a drink with a friend. There is also Bestway, a small grocery store. “It has a huge craft beer selection,” Messick says. “Most people go to the Friendly Center for shopping — it has a Harris Teeter and Whole Foods. It’s got everything you need.” There are also a variety of bars, including Jake’s, which holds an appeal with college students, and wine bars, which are “more popular with adults,” Messick says.Greenway Playground and College Park
The Brice Street Area has a couple of parks within the neighborhood, and residents access the nearby Greensboro Aquatic Center and the Greensboro Arboretum, as well as a movie theater and bowling alleys; all are within a 2-mile radius. Kids can enjoy the shaded Greenway Playground and will soon be able to visit Mayer Park on Poe Street, which will have playing fields and a new dog park. College Park, along North College Park Drive, offers a basketball court and a playground.Events at the Greensboro Coliseum
The Greensboro Coliseum has a constant stream of events, perfect for sports fans and for those looking to catch their favorite performer live. “There are also a lot of community activities,” Messick says. “Some of them are put together by the Sunset Hills neighborhood, but Brice Street Area residents participate as well. For example, in December, they hang Christmas balls filled with lights, and there is a 5K race called Running of the Balls.” On Saturdays, there is a farmers market on Market Street.Housing options in the Brice Street Area
Housing in the neighborhood consists of single-family homes and apartments. “Most of the renters are undergrad students or teachers at UNCG,” Messick says. Many of the homes were constructed in the 1930s, and buyers may find a carefully restored bungalow, a brick Cape Cod or a Tudor Revival style with three bedrooms listed in the upper $200,000s to upper $400,000s. There are also a few residences with close to 3,000 square feet of living space — these may sell for more than $800,000.Starting out at Lindley Elementary School

Students may earn their diplomas from A-rated Grimsley High School, which has a strong arts program. Some area students attend Our Lady of Grace Catholic School, where students in kindergarten through eighth grade can benefit from small class sizes — the school has a student-teacher ratio of 10-to-1. In downtown Greensboro, learners can continue their education at one of the nearby universities: North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, University of North Carolina Greensboro or Bennett College.Take a bike or bus ride along Spring Garden Street
Locals have many transportation options within the neighborhood. “Buses run on Spring Garden Street, and it’s an easy bike ride or walk to UNCG,” says Messick. The Greensboro Amtrak station is just over 2 miles from the area, and trains run to locations including Washington, D.C. and Raleigh. Those who need to travel farther can find the Piedmont Triad International Airport 11 miles away; it offers direct flights to 13 domestic destinations. For urgent medical care, there is a Level II Trauma Center in the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, within 4 miles.Weather concerns
