Anthem Highlands: A quiet haven from the Vegas neon lights

On the southern edge of the Las Vegas Valley, Anthem Highlands is a quiet suburb away from the neon lights of the Strip — treating residents to views of the Black Mountains and quick access to the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. Part of the master-planned community of Anthem, the Henderson neighborhood boasts endless amenities, a vibrant community and over 72 acres dedicated to parks, trails and green space in the entire Anthem area. While outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate its proximity to nature, those who crave exciting nightlife and entertainment are only a short drive from the Vegas Strip and Downtown Vegas. “It appeals to professionals, athletes, entertainers, snowbirds, retirees and part-timers,” says Londa Faber, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, who has sold homes and lived in neighboring Anthem Country Club since 2006. “The diversity of home types and price range is what sets Anthem Highlands apart from other area developments. It’s definitely Henderson’s most desirable zip code.”

An outdoor lover's dream

The neighborhood is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, with easy access to trailheads, mountain views and plenty of open green space. “With it being nestled back in the hills, you not only have the peace and quiet but really well-maintained, great walking trails,” says Agent Jody Lenzie, Realtor at RE/MAX Advantage and a Las Vegas Valley resident since 1974. The massive 48,000-acre Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area surrounds Anthem Highland’s southern boundary, a serene escape for hikers and cyclists to access a network of trailheads, trek through the McCullough Wilderness and look at over 300 historic petroglyphs, referred to as the Sistine Chapel of Native American rock art. Hikers can also hop on the nearby Black Mountain Trailhead and Shadow Canyon Trailhead, which weaves its way to the rugged Black Mountain, Anthem East and Park Peak trails. For those looking for a little more leisurely outdoor recreation, the neighborhood is home to the 6-acre Esselmont Park, where residents can bring their dogs along to run in the lit dog park, let the kids cool off in the splash pad or shoot hoops. In the neighboring community Inspirada, Aventura Park and Potenza Park offer even more outdoor options, like a skate park, large grassy knolls for picnics and shaded play areas. And seasoned golfers and beginners alike can practice their swing at the award-winning Revere Golf Club, which offers two 18-hole championship courses with views of the Vegas skyline and mountains.

Spanish Revivals to million-dollar estates with panoramic views

With over 1,400 homes, there’s something for every style and budget, from more modest Spanish Revivals and Mediterranean-style homes to lavish estates. Most homes were built in the early 2000s, ranging from $400,000 to $1.3 million. Newcomers will find two- to three-bedroom homes starting at 1,600 square feet for $400,000, and the higher-end homes boast up to five bedrooms and 5,000 square feet of living space. “Some of the houses up here have really good views as well since you’re higher up,” Lenzie says. Most Anthem Highlands homes have sparkling pools to beat the desert heat, multi-car garages and meticulously landscaped lawns shaded with palms. Million-dollar homes provide panoramic views, oasis-esque backyards on nearly a quarter acre, basketball courts and guesthouses. Among its 11 subdivisions, Anthem Highland offers three guard-gated subdivisions — Earlstone Estates, Haddington and Edinburg — where many higher-end homes are. Homes in the $400,000 to $600,000 range can be found in the Glengarry and Summerville subdivisions, and residents ages 55 and up will find options starting at $400,000 in the Solera subdivision. All subdivisions come with varying homeowners’ association fees.

Quick access to shopping and dining

While outdoor recreation outbounds, those who prefer leisurely relaxing indoors or painting the down will find solace here, too. “You can also get to nightlife in about 25 minutes, which is nice about this area,” Lenzie says. Most shopping and dining options are a quick drive away off Bicentennial Parkway, which runs along the northern part of the neighborhood and carries residents through the entire Anthem community. Rounders Bicentennial offers a 24-hour dining and gaming experience without traveling to the touristy Vegas Strip. Residents can also try their luck and sip cocktails at the M Resort Spa Casino off Route 146, which boasts slots, video poker, table games, a wine bar, and a nightclub. While here, dine at the upscale chophouse, Anthony’s Prime Steak or Seafood, or enjoy more casual fare at Lulu Hawaiian BBQ, known for its spam musubi, BBQ chicken and other Polynesian dishes. Fuel up in the morning at New Day Café in the Anthem Highlands Shopping Mall, which also provides groceries at Alberton’s, pet supplies at Jones Pet Outlet and essentials at CVS.

A 12-time football championship-winning high school

Clark County School District serves the area, and local students attend Shirley and Bill Wallin Elementary, Del E. Webb Middle School and Liberty High School, all of which hold a B-plus grade from Niche. Wallin offers an annual fall festival, a summer reading contest and regular family nights. Liberty High School is a 12-time divisional football champion and offers journalism and garden clubs.

Close to big-city amenities

Route 146 and Interstate 15 are just a short drive northwest of Anthem Highlands, providing convenient access to the rest of the area. Harry Reid International Airport is a 13-mile drive, and the Vegas Strip is 17 miles away.
