Small town living outside of Music City

Named for President Andrew Jackson's former home that is now a museum that sits in the center of this suburb, Hermitage offers more than just rich history. Situated between two lakes—Old Hickory Lake to the north and Percy Priest Lake to the south—residents of Hermitage appreciate the 13-mile proximity to downtown while being away from the chaos of the city. "Hermitage is not so much a neighborhood but a small community full of affordable homes occupied by predominantly working-class families,” says Diane Journell, a Realtor at Benchmark Realty with 8 years of experience in the Mt. Juliet region.

From townhomes to Farmhouse Revivals

With a median home price of $400,000 as of 2023, Hermitage remains one of the more affordable neighborhoods east of the city. Quiet, tree-lined streets line many of the residential areas, where homes have manicured lawns, and some have attached garages and driveways. Ranch homes, cottages, Split Levels, Cape Cods and townhomes with 750 to 2,000 square feet of space, several boasting brick accents, are typically priced between $225,000 and $500,000. Larger, 2,000- to 3,000-square-foot Colonial and Farmhouse Revivals, postmodern brick homes and new constructions, some with wrap-around driveways and front porch columns, range from $500,000 to around $600,000.
