Hollywood Lakes features beautifully maintained rows of classic homes.
Small coastal enclave known for its historic homes and water views
When Joseph Young planned Hollywood Lakes in the 1920s, he envisioned a community with lots of open spaces, unobstructed lake views, and dazzling homes with wide front porches ideal for outdoor living. And that's exactly what he created. Designated as a historic district, this coastal community has maintained its old-school appeal despite the budding urbanization around it. "All of downtown is starting to go through a renovation," says Jose Castro, a sales associate and team leader of the Jose Castro Group with RE/MX Five Star Realty. But Hollywood Lakes has managed to avoid mass urbanization because of zoning restrictions due to its historic status, says Castro, a Hollywood resident who's been selling in the area for more than 11 years. Besides its striking homes, the neighborhood is known for its wide selection of parks and proximity to the Intracoastal Waterway and Hollywood Beach.

Charming homes from the 1920s
Hollywood Lakes is filled with unique, custom builds in Art Deco, midcentury, Spanish and ranch styles. Many are characterized by gabled roofs covered with barrel tiles, doors and windows highlighted with spiral columns, and wide porches designed for entertaining. The prices here vary greatly, with the smallest homes starting around $500,000 and the largest going for more than $11 million. Entry-level options include modest two- to three-bedroom ranches, Mediterranean villas and minimal midcentury builds that sell for between $540,000 and $945,000. Those looking for a little more space can size up to three- to five-bedroom builds that range from $1 million to $1.9 million or go even bigger, snagging a three- to six-bedroom mansion for between $2 million and $4 million. Then there are a few new expansive modern and Mediterranean builds, which start around $5 million and can surpass $11 million, depending on how large the property is or if it's waterfront. Homes closer to the West Lake tend to be more affordable than those surrounding the North and South Lakes. There are also some condos and townhouses throughout the community, the oldest of which were built in the 1960s. Condos here often have between one and three bedrooms. They are exceptionally affordable options for the area, starting at $125,000 and going for as much as $400,000. Townhouses are a bit more expensive but often come on generous waterfront lots. Options near the West Lake range from $365,000 to $700,000, while those near the twin lakes sell for between $850,000 and $1.15 million.
Hollywood Lakes offers beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean.
West Lake Park provides easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway
Parks are scattered throughout Hollywood Lakes, an intentional decision aimed at making it easy to have an active lifestyle here. West Lake Park is a community favorite, in large part because the lake connects to the Intracoastal Waterway, a go-to route for boaters. But water access isn't the park's only asset. The 3-acre space is also home to many trails, a multipurpose field, a playground and courts for nearly half a dozen sports. Joe DiMaggio Park is a small green space on the other end of town, named for the former Hollywood resident and New York Yankees Hall of Famer. It's centered around two modest lakes wrapped by walking trails and features a colorful playground and giant baseball statue in honor of the DiMaggio. The neighborhood's twin lakes, North and South, are also major attractions for swimmers and boaters. In fact, South Lake is one of a few "wake zones" in the area, meaning residents can jet and water ski there. And, of course, the neighborhood sits along the Intracoastal Waterway and is just 1.2 miles from Hollywood Beach.
Restaurants on the water are plentiful just minutes from Hollywood Lakes.
Robust dining scene on North Ocean Drive
Hollywood Lakes is primarily residential, but plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment options surround it. Publix is the nearest grocery store, sitting less than 1 mile from the town center. North Ocean Drive is about 1 mile in the opposite direction and is the area's most popular commercial corridor. Residents have several grocery store options, including Joe's Market and Ocean Grocer. Several eclectic restaurants also pepper the area, like GG's Waterfront, a riverside bar and grill known for its locally sourced seafood and custom desserts. And a little farther up the street, 5 O'clock Somewhere Bar & Grill exudes tropical vacation vibes. This Jimmy Buffett-themed eatery sits along the Intracoastal and has a massive sand-covered outdoor dining area, complete with a fire pit and palm frond umbrellas. And because it's waterfront, folks can get there by sea. "They have a water taxi that stops there," says Esther Herrera, a Realtor with The Keyes Company. "It goes north to Fort Lauderdale and back, and some of them have little bars on them." She's been selling in the area since 2015. For more dining and shopping options, residents can also head into downtown Hollywood, about a little more than 1 mile away.

Community events hosted by the city
The city of Hollywood has a robust events calendar, ranging from Friday movie nights in nearby ArtsPark to annual holiday celebrations like the city tree lighting. The Mother Ocean Music Festival is one of the city's bigger events, drawing hundreds of people. It's held each year on the Saturday closest to Earth Day to raise environmental protection awareness.
Proximity to Route 1
Hollywood Boulevard passes through the community, connecting residents to Hollywood Beach, downtown Hollywood and U.S. Route 1. The neighborhood is also right next to the Central Business District, where there are plenty of commercial and office spaces. When it comes to public transit, the community is served by the City of Hollywood's Sun-Shuttle, which provides "on-demand" service for short trips. The neighborhood is also just under 6 miles from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
