East Little York
East Little York mixes midcentury charm and new development
East Little York is known for brick-lined ranch homes built in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, bringing vintage style to the community. These houses are surrounded by brick patios, gates made of chain link or wrought iron and thick swaths of native trees. The area has some new construction, mainly one-story buildings that Vive Realty Agent Maria Bonilla says have become increasingly popular in North Forest. Midcentury homes may range from the mid-$100,000s to the high $300,000s, while new properties can start in the mid-$200,000s and go up to about $400,000. East Little York has a CAP Index Crime Score of 6, which is higher than the national average score of 4. In a 2023 survey, over 90% of East Little York residents said they wanted a greater focus on crime from Houston’s mayor. “Safety is something people care about for sure,” says Foster Jenkins, a librarian at Scenic Woods Regional Library who lives in the North Forest area. “Even if they personally feel safe at home, they want the best for their neighbors and friends, too.”Never-ending drink options at 3D’s Krazy Kitchen
Centrally located on Leedale Street, 3D’s Krazy Kitchen is one of the neighborhood’s favorite restaurants. The menu is filled with American fare, like country-fried chicken wings and ribs. Locals keep coming back for the restaurant’s signature daiquiris that come in over 50 flavors. “You really can’t beat those daiquiris. I feel like I can order a new flavor every time I stop by,” Jenkins says. Spindletap Brewery, which was previously voted one of the best breweries in Houston, has a 3.5-acre taproom on Hirst Street. Locals can sip a home-brewed beer and breathe in smoky bonfire air on the outdoor patio.A few small discount stores are dotted through East Little York for grab-and-go essentials.
