Northside
Newer Craftsman-style homes are sprouting throughout Northside
Northside features a wide range of options for homebuyers and renters alike. The neighborhood primarily features homes with traditional brick architecture alongside smaller ranch-style dwellings, while newer Craftsmans have also taken root in subdivisions like Eagle Landing. Apartments take up much of the east side off Interstate 45, where renters can find a one-bedroom apartment at $1,000 per month. Most single-family homes price between $200,000 and $400,000, though some smaller, more established residences tend to top out around $150,000. According to Louie, days on market can vary from home to home. "Houses can sell pretty quickly depending on how updated they are," he says. "It can take one week or three weeks, depending on how much work has been done to make it market-ready."Beneke Elementary sits in the center of Northside
Northside students are served by the Spring Independent School District. Kids may go to Beneke Elementary School, which earns an overall grade of C-plus from Niche, before moving on to the C-minus-rated Edwin M. Wells Middle School. Teens begin their secondary education at the newly constructed Westfield Ninth Grade Center before advancing to Westfield High School's adjacent main campus. The high school also earns a C-minus Niche and boasts a competitive athletics program that has produced several world-class athletes, including NFL defensive lineman Ed Oliver.Locals enjoy easy access to Interstate 45 and the airport
Northside's subdivisions are walkable, though locals will need access to a vehicle for longer commutes. Luckily, residents benefit from solid access to Interstate 45, which runs along the neighborhood's east side and feeds directly to downtown Houston. Traffic can be heavy during rush hour, however. The METRO bus features numerous stops throughout Northside, and frequent air travelers enjoy proximity to George Bush Intercontinental Airport, which sits just 9 miles east.Northside's Lonestar Sausage & BBQ stands out as a local staple
Various shopping and dining options can be found along Veterans Memorial Drive. Kroger and Food Town are the usual stops for groceries, though residents also frequent El Rancho Supermercado at The Commons for international food options and the retailers at Torrey Square. National chain restaurants are a short drive away, but locally owned eateries stand out among the pack. In a city where barbecue is king, Lonestar Sausage & BBQ is among the top choices for ribs and brisket, while Viva Jalisco Bar & Grill is revered for its Mexican fare.Dylan Park exhibits splashes of art near one of the country's largest skateparks
An afternoon in the park is only a short drive away. On the east side off Kuykendahl Road, Dylan Park serves as a hub for friendly playdates at the playground, decorated with mosaic artwork. The adjacent North Houston Skate Park is another top spot, drawing skateboarders from across town. It was once the largest skatepark in North America, though that title now belongs to Lauridsen Skatepark in Iowa. Flip N' Fun Center also sits nearby off West Richey Road. Offering laser tag, bumper cars and a trampoline park, the facility is an area staple for family outings.
