Walkability and low-maintenance living in Renaissance Place

If you’re looking for low-maintenance living within walking distance of nightlife on Massachusetts Avenue and concerts at the Old National Centre, Renaissance Place is the place to be. The pocket neighborhood features HOA condos and townhouses in the heart of Indianapolis, steps from shops, restaurants and bars and about a 10-minute walk from the trendy Bottleworks District. The walkable and bikeable neighborhood is also served by the IndyGo bus, and you can easily hop onto interstates 70 and 65.

Walk to dinner and drinks on Mass Ave or in the Bottleworks District

Massachusetts Avenue — Mass Ave to locals — is lined with bars, restaurants and shops. The strip has local favorites like Bru Burger Bar, a go-to for gourmet burgers and thick-cut onion rings. Condado Tacos serves up classic Mexican fare in a mural-covered building, but diners can also chill on the dog-friendly patio. The Rathskeller has an iconic beer garden and authentic German food, while Livery features a rooftop terrace and signature empanadas. You’re also within walking distance of the Bottleworks District, a new shopping and dining destination in a former Coca-Cola bottling facility. If you're looking for a fun night on the town, you can:

  • Grab dinner and drinks at The Garage Food Hall
  • Play pinball and duck pin bowling at Pins Mechanical Co.
  • Enjoy an indie flick and cocktails at Living Room Theater
  • Spend the night in an Art Deco room at Bottleworks Hotel

Condos and townhouses are standard

“Renaissance Place was all built in the 1980s, so it’s completely different than a lot of the historic neighborhoods surrounding it,” says Jess Martin, co-founder and broker at Maywright Property Co. “It’s filled with a lot of technically condos, but they’re more like townhomes because you have your own front door and your own garage. They’re great for people who are really busy or travel a lot for work and want to be able to live in a place where they don’t have a lot to maintain, but maybe want a lawn because there’s a lot of green spaces and a lot of condos have their own yard.” Monthly HOA fees typically run about $200, covering lawncare and the like. Despite the ’80s-era brick exteriors, most units have been updated, and prices range from the low $300,000s to $400,000.

Concerts and theater performances at distinctive Old National Centre

The Old National Centre, formerly known as the Murat Shrine Temple, is one of Indy’s premier theaters and music venues. With Moorish-inspired architecture, it’s one of the city’s most distinctive buildings. There are three venues in the Old National Centre: the Murat Theatre, a 2,500-seat auditorium; The Egyptian Room, a 2,000-person concert hall; and the more intimate Deluxe room. Major musical acts looking to play a smaller venue than Gainbridge Fieldhouse frequently make the Murat or The Egyptian Room their Indianapolis concert stop. Other nearby live music spots include Chatterbox Jazz Club and Hilbert Circle Theatre.

Parks and green space just outside the neighborhood

Renaissance Place doesn’t have any parks of its own, but you’re not far from public green spaces like the American Legion Mall, which sprawls across multiple blocks from the Indianapolis Public Library to the Indiana War Memorial and Museum. University Park is a popular picnic spot when the weather is warm. You’re just 2 miles from White River State Park, which houses the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indiana State Museum and the Eiteljorg Museum, which showcases Native American and Western art and history. There’s also the Downtown Canal Walk, where you can paddle and kayak along the canal or just talk a stroll.

Walkable and bikeable to everything Indy has to offer

Sidewalks make it easy to get around the neighborhood, and drivers are just minutes from the junction of I-70 and I-65. There are several IndyGo bus stops and bike-friendly streets in the neighborhood. You’re also close to several multiuse trails, including the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, which threads together the city’s cultural districts, and the 30-mile Monon Trail.

Public, magnet and charter school options

Kids can attend schools in the Indianapolis Public Schools system, which offers open choice and a lottery system for magnet schools and other specialized programs.
