Space and freedom west of Jupiter
Saddle up and settle down in Jupiter Farms, a rural community in unincorporated Palm Beach County where horses are as common as houses. Among an eclectic mix of custom homes on oversized lots, residents are treated to 15 square miles of a setting uncommon in South Florida, where peace and privacy go hand-in-hand with an active lifestyle provided by the natural surroundings. “Just south of there is The Acreage, a development where they took a bunch of old farmland and converted it into large lots. Jupiter Farms is an upscale version of that which caters to the equestrian crowd,” says John Demitri, a Realtor with Keller Williams Reserve who serves Palm Beach and Martin counties. He adds that what the community really offers is the kind of space that is hard to find elsewhere in South Florida. “You’re not on top of one another,” he says. “You’re not looking out your window into the neighbor’s window.”
Protected lands will prevent further development
The Riverbend Equestrian Center is a highlight of the community, which is populated with miles of horse-riding trails. Horses and humans have access to the multi-purpose trails at Riverbend Park. Watercraft enthusiasts can float the Loxahatchee River amid the park’s development-free landscape, and on-site ponds offer bankside fishing. Anglers also can pull peacock bass from the aptly named Peacock Lake nearby. Wildlife is the featured attraction at the Cypress Creek Natural Area, a 2,000-acre playground for nature lovers adjacent to Riverbend Park. Those attracted to the community’s outdoor opportunities do not have to worry about future development encroaching on their preferred spaces. “Very little can be done to change things because of all the protected lands,” Demitri says. “What’s there is there.” Traditional recreational amenities at Jupiter Farms Park include athletic fields and a playground. Golfers have access to the private Jupiter Country Club just outside the community. A Greg Norman-designed 18-hole golf course is the centerpiece of the resort-style amenities available to members. The community’s rural setting belies its proximity to the city’s Atlantic oceanfront, which is less than 8 miles away.

"Little Green Acres" offers large homes on spacious lots
The community features an eclectic mix of homes in a variety of styles on oversized lots. “The homes are all on 1 acre or more, and they typically offer 2,000 to 3,500 square feet,” Demitri says. Along with space comes freedom. “There are no HOAs, he adds, “so no one is telling you what color to paint your house.” Ranch-style homes are prominent among established housing that was built primarily from the 1970s to the early 1990s. Country-style homes on acreage lots also stand out as part of the established housing. Homes built as the community was developing are not on city water and sewer, which means water filtration systems are an extra expense. Prices for the community’s oldest homes typically range from the mid-$400,000s to as much as $1 million for larger renovated dwellings. Additionally, the community’s established housing is wood-frame construction, which results in higher insurance costs. Homes built after Hurricane Andrew in 1992 are all concrete-block construction. Also important to remember is that several roads are unpaved. Homes on unpaved roads are more affordable than a similar home fronting a paved road. Paved or not, it is quieter along the roads of Jupiter Farms. The community’s newer homes are just as eclectic as its established offerings. “We have a variety of homes that are all custom built, meaning no two homes are the same,” says Erica Gouldy Wolfe, a local resident and agent with Real Broker LLC. Newer homes are among the community’s largest and typically feature additional acreage with room for luxury amenities such as pools and community-specific amenities such as horse barns and stables. Prices range from $1 million to more than $3.5 million. The community saw a drastic increase in development during COVID, as homebuyers from outside Florida looked to relocate to the country amid remote work. A large percentage came from New York and Chicago. “I’d have clients say. ‘I didn’t think I could get something like this for that money,’” Demitri says. “Jupiter Farms was like a little Green Acres to them.”

Retail and dining options at Jupiter Farms Village
The westward development of Jupiter has resulted in expansion of the city’s infrastructure. Therefore, despite a rural setting, residents enjoy proximity to retail and dining options, which are concentrated at Jupiter Farms Village. Angel’s Equestrian Marketplace is the quintessential store for this community. Publix provides a quick-and-easy grocery option. Angelo’s Too is a well-known Jupiter restaurant that serves up Italian comfort food favorites. Aldi, Walmart and Home Depot are available in neighboring communities.

Jupiter's beaches are closer than you think
While the community is car-dependent, residents do have the luxury of traveling by golf cart. And, of course, horse. It is easy to get in and out of the community. Indiantown Road, which forms the community’s northern border, leads directly to buzzier Jupiter destinations, most notably Jupiter's beaches. Along the way is Jupiter Medical Center, the top-rated hospital in Palm Beach County. A commuter rail station is located on the medical campus. Interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike converge just outside the community, and both provide access to points of interest throughout the region, including Palm Beach and its international airport a little more than 20 miles south.

Halloween celebration and Hoedown Music Festival are popular events
The community holds several events throughout the year, a favorite being its annual spooktacular celebration. “On the Saturday before Halloween, we all gather on our golf carts and go trick-or-treating along the farms in the southwest of the neighborhood, riding side by side,” says Gouldy Wolfe. The Hoedown Music Festival, which features live music and food vendors at Jupiter Farms Park, is another popular community event.
