Exploring Minor Park or relaxing at home
Homeowners looking to buy their first homes or cheaper options than those in downtown Kansas City move to St. Catherine’s Gardens. Here, homeowners can find a place with easy access to popular outdoor destinations like the Oakwood Golf Club, Minor Park or Gambril Tract Park. “St. Catherine’s Gardens has affordable houses in the $225,000 range with relatively low crime,” says Jesse Taitt, an experienced real estate agent with Keller Williams Platinum Members. “The homes north in the Birchwood area sell in the $325,000 range, so St. Catherine homes have a great chance to see an increase in value.” The neighborhood also sits about 5 minutes from the Red Bridge Shopping Center, popular for its dining options, and The Regnier Family Wonderscope Children's Museum of Kansas City. With Interstate 435 and 49 right nearby, residents have no trouble getting to work in downtown KC or getting to nearby parks for some fun.

Par for the course at Oakwood Country Club
St. Catherine’s Gardens residents have multiple spots to enjoy when they want to get out of the house and play a round of golf or reconnect with nature. Some become members of the elite Oakwood Country Club or smaller Minor Park Golf Course. Others walk through the trees at Gambril Tract Park or go for a hike along the Blue River Parkway Trails. Parents take their kids farther south to Minor Park to practice on the tennis courts or hang out on the playground near the shaded picnic tables.

New homeowners choose St. Catherine's Gardens
Ranch homes and split-levels with attached garages, large yards and paved driveways fill the neighborhood. Most feature three bedrooms and around 2,000 square feet of space. Some have Tudor-influenced designs, and almost all have half-brick, half-vinyl exteriors. Prices often range from $200,000 to $260,000. “Most residents are new homeowners or young families. They move there to get lower home prices and be 15 minutes from Downtown Kansas City,” says Matthew Webb, an experienced Realtor and team leader with Keller Williams Platinum Partners. Homes might sit on the market for less than a week, while others take closer to a month to find a new owner. Residents often live in three primary communities: Southern Hills, Birchwood Hills or the Calumet area.

Easy commutes down I-435
Webb and Taitt both point out how close St. Catherine’s Gardens is to Interstate 435 and 79. Residents who need to get to work in Grandview or downtown Kansas City drive down Interstate 435. RideKC buses don’t run anywhere near the neighborhood, so residents rely heavily on their cars to visit nearby cities, go shopping or stop by local parks.

Fresh treats at Fox and Bull Baking Co.
For a light breakfast before school, parents and students can stop by Fox and Bull Baking Co. This bakery is best known for its spread of donuts, danishes and fresh bread. Most residents head to nearby Red Bridge Shopping Center to grab a table at Caleb’s Breakfast & Lunch or meet up with friends at Barrio Mexican Restaurant + Bar. “Barrio’s is delicious, and Crow’s Coffee is a great spot,” Taitt says. He also says The Regnier Family Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City is a fun spot for kids to interact with different science displays. The Red Bridge Shopping Center sees guests stopping by to dine out, so residents visit Grandview to shop at Ross, Burlington or T. J. Maxx.
Dollar General sits nearby for locals to stop by for last-minute essentials, and residents can also get their daily groceries at the Price Chopper off Interstate 49 or the Aldi on Blue Ridge Boulevard.

Ruskin High School has been serving St Catherine's Gardens students since 1929.
Studying for future careers at Ruskin High
“Homeowners usually have young kids around one or two, so they aren’t sending their kids to school just yet,” Webb says. When they are old enough, parents can send them to Warford Elementary, which receives a C-minus from Niche. Students later transition to the C-rated Center Middle School and Ruskin High School. Teens at Ruskin High can join Small Learning Communities (SLCs) to meet their standard academic requirements while also studying specific course areas that push them toward future learning or jobs. The different areas of study include arts and communications and business and finance.
