Mountaintop seclusion with easy access
Situated within the rolling foothills of the Rocky Mountains and part of one of the Denver metro’s most scenic mountain suburbs, the Genesee North Central neighborhood offers a serene retreat from the Mile High City’s more busy elements – all without sacrificing access for commuters. “Within Genesee, the northern edge of the area offers a lot more convenience,” says Sean Murphy, a real estate agent with eXp Realty and longtime resident of the area. “You have that mountain atmosphere and a lot of the peace and quiet that comes with that, but you’re closer to the interstate, and you can get back down the hill that much quicker.”
Colorado beauty and wildlife on all sides
Genesee provides its residents with uninterrupted access to all manner of outdoor recreation. Genesee Park is home to Buffalo Overlook, which hangs over a nature preserve that’s home to Colorado wildlife – including herds of bison. Locals can learn more about nearby flora and fauna at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center, which features educational programs for residents of all ages. Hikers and mountain bikers have options at Genesee Park and Apex Park, which are linked together via the community walking paths found throughout Genesee’s four neighborhoods. “Nature is a part of your everyday life in Genesee,” says Murphy. “It’s almost like you live along a picturesque hiking trail.” The Genesee Foundation serves as the area’s HOA, and the fees – $685 per quarter – contribute to the upkeep of several community centers that provide gathering spots for community members.

Traditional and mountain contemporary homes
In contrast to some other nearby neighborhoods, homes in Genesee North Central feature fewer sprawling mountain contemporary estates in favor of more traditional builds like ranch style and two-story traditional, along with a selection of townhouses and condominiums. “You can definitely still find big mountain estates, but they aren’t as prevalent since the highway is so close,” says Murphy. “It’s a bit of a tradeoff – a little bit less space and a little bit more road noise, but it’s more convenient and it’s usually a little cheaper too.” Townhouses and condos start at around $650,000 and reach $880,000, while ranch-style and similar traditional homes range from $850,000 to $1.2 million.
Townhouses and condominiums are also available in Genesee North Central.

Stay in Genesee or take a quick trip down the hill
With the interstate close by, residents can quickly get to Evergreen or Golden, which are approximately 10 miles away and feature grocery options like King Soopers and Safeway. Evergreen, in particular, features a downtown full of shops selling local artisan goods, such as Evergreen Clothing & Mercantile. Further retail options can be found at Colorado Mills Mall, home to name-brand favorites. The Genesee Town Center is home to Genesee Pub & BBQ, the area’s go-to spot for comfort food classics and Texas-style barbecue. The Chart House, meanwhile, offers a more upscale dining experience. “It doesn’t take long at all to get down the hill and where you need to be, even if that’s in Denver,” says Murphy. “That’s part of the charm – feeling a lot farther out than you really are.”

Highway 74 and I-70 make commuting straightforward
In contrast to other parts of Genesee, the North Central area is just off Highway 74 and I-70 – making it especially popular for those who want a bit of seclusion but still need a straightforward commute. “There’s no public transportation up there, obviously, but the highway access makes commuting feasible,” says Murphy. “You can usually reach Denver in around 40 minutes.” Denver International Airport is 45 miles outside Genesee, accessible via I-70 and E-470. Commuters should keep mountain driving conditions in mind, especially during winter snowfall.
