Halls Crossroads has it

A growing community just minutes from Knoxville, Halls Crossroads’ signs display the motto “Halls has it.” Whether it's the neighborhood’s easy commutes to nearby employers, plenty of shopping options, or more space for a growing family, Halls indeed has it. “It’s a very family-friendly place,” says Haley Van Edom, Realtor at the Van Edom Group at Realty Executives who has lived in the neighborhood. “It’s close to everything, especially for commuting, but you feel kind of rural, like you’re out in the country, and you can get a little more space.”

Diverse home styles in Halls

Buyers find an array of home styles and an active real estate market in the various developments throughout Halls Crossroads. Many of the area’s houses are ranch-style and range in value from $200,000 to the low-$500,000s, though new traditional homes with Colonial or French Country styling are popping up and top out around $1 million. Manufactured homes and investor properties needing love can start around $100,000, while smaller cottages start in the mid-$100,000s and scattered townhouses and condos generally start around $250,000. Otherwise, prospective buyers can buy one of the many lots on the market to build their dream home, starting around $15,000 per acre.

Dining options in central Halls Crossroads

Shopping centers line Maynardville Pike as it runs through the center of Halls Crossroads. Fast food chain restaurants such as Arby’s, Taco Bell and Wendy’s cluster together, while stores such as Ace Hardware and Dollar General fill the strip malls. Set back from Maynardville Pike is local favorite Bel-Air Grill, a 1950s-car-culture-inspired eatery that residents visit for its famous homemade ranch dressing, as well as Plaza Mexico for authentic Mexican cuisine. “There are tons of different options in Halls, there’s a Cuban place, a Japanese spot, so there are really a lot of choices,” Van Edom says. For groceries and other essentials, locals have options ranging from Food City to Aldi, or the new Walmart Supercenter.

Commutes to Knoxville and Oak Ridge

While it functions as an exurb of Knoxville, Halls Crossroads does not have access to its bus lines, which stop just before reaching Halls. Instead, residents are reliant on cars for transportation wherever they need to go. Downtown Knoxville lies 13 miles away, and many residents commute to the city every day for work. “Lots of people also commute to Oak Ridge,” Van Edom says. “From Halls, they can cut across and go in the back way which is a little quicker.” The city’s McGhee Tyson Airport is closer to 25 miles from Halls Crossroads, with regional service as well as a few flights to major hubs like Dallas-Fort Worth and Chicago-O’Hare.

Students at Knox County Schools

Situated in the Knox County Schools district, Halls Crossroads kids are split between three elementary schools: Brickley McCloud Elementary and Halls Elementary both received B-plus grades from Niche, while Adrian Burnett Elementary was given a B-minus. Students then move on to the B-graded Halls Middle School before finishing up at Halls High School. The B-minus-rated high school has a variety of clubs and activities for students to participate in, including Future Farmers of America, Philosophy Club and the Robotics Team.

Recreation in Halls

Residents of Halls Crossroads have access to recreation for all ages. Kids playing youth sports will likely frequent Halls Community Park, with its baseball and football fields becoming a lively community gathering place each weekend. The Halls Greenway, a favorite for walkers and joggers, connects to Halls Community Park and follows the path of the nearby Beaver Creek. Meanwhile, for those looking to play golf, the private Beaver Brook Golf Country Club is popular in the area and features a scenic course to go along with a pool and tennis courts.

Halls Crossroads Women’s League events

Local groups like the Halls Crossroads Women’s League put on community events throughout the year. These include the area’s farmers market, held every Saturday during the spring and summer at the Black Oak Plaza Shopping Center featuring local produce and food trucks.
