An active Lafayette Parish neighborhood rich in history
Just 6 miles south of Lafayette is Kaliste Saloom — an active Louisiana neighborhood in proximity to good schools and a load of shopping options. Kaliste Saloom Sr., the neighborhood's namesake, came to the United States from Lebanon in 1895 and became successful in business, eventually leading to the area's main road being named after him. Now, locals often refer to the area around the thoroughfare as Kaliste Saloom as well. Containing Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, one of the area's top employers, Kaliste Saloom serves as a top spot for locals to work and play in Lafayette Parish. "Lafayette is interesting in that it's a small town that thinks it's a big city. It wants to be a big city. It wants to be New York, but it's still really a small town at heart. Everybody knows everybody. Everybody is somehow connected to one another. It's kind of the epitome of a southern town," says local Realtor and Owner of Thibodeaux Reed Realty Rosalind Thibodeaux.
Huntington Park and Farrel Place offer an array of home styles
Kaliste Saloom offers a wide range of home styles in varying shapes and sizes contained within its subdivisions. Huntington Park primarily contains ranch-style homes with hipped roofs while Farrel Place offers more contemporary properties with traditional brick architecture. Smaller homes around 1,500 square feet tend to price between $200,000 and $350,000 while larger builds with four or more bedrooms can range between $300,000 to upwards of $1 million. Kaliste Saloom's housing market is relatively competitive with many homes selling within four to five weeks of their listing.
Kaliste Saloom homes tend to have larger yards than some other areas of Lafayette.
As with most of Lafayette, Ranch-style homes are one of the favorite styles in Kaliste Saloom.
