San Isidro
New Traditional homes with Spanish influences and condos
The majority of the home style for the neighborhood is New Traditional, with most being two-story and a scattering of single-storys. Prices begin around $270,000 and can reach up to $440,000. Some homes have Spanish Colonial elements, with bright exteriors colors and stucco roofs. Sidewalks and attached garages fill the neighborhood, even stretching across Loop 20 to connect the two sections of San Isidro. Backyard pools and solar panels, while not uncommon, do not come with each home. There are also some contemporary homes, with prices ranging from $300,000 to $400,000. There are a few condominium developments within the neighborhood, with prices ranging from $180,000 to $395,000. South of the Loop, condos were built between 2000 and 2005, while north of the Loop they are generally built in 2023 and 2024. Homeowner associations are common throughout the neighborhood for both homes and condos, with monthly costs.Shopping center with groceries with chain restaurants
San Isidro may be primarily residential, but the Independence Plaza shopping mall is home to the grocery store H-E-B plus and several clothing stores, including T.J. Maxx and Ross Dress for Less. “A lot of the activities here, in my opinion, go with where you’re going to eat,” says Wright-Martinez. “Although maybe it’s because I don’t have kids in high school anymore.” San Isidro has several restaurants, however they are chain businesses. Heading further south in Laredo leads to local businesses, such as Rudy’s, San Telmo Argentinean Steakhouse and Dos Marias Kitchen on McPherson Road.Kite festival and learning about Laredo’s water
North Central Park hosts the Spring Break Kite Festival a free event to the public, usually occurring during March. Residents bring kites, and a local band provides live music. While on the other side of Laredo, the Laredo Water Museum showcases how the Rio Grande is used as well as the infrastructure needed in the city of Laredo. Reservations are required, with about a day’s notice for families and a week’s notice for educational groups.Engineering and technology magnet program at United HS
Most students attend Malakoff Elementary, but students living north of the Bob Bullock Loop will attend San Isidro Elementary. The two elementary schools receive a B and a B-plus from Niche, respectively. Students then attend Elias Herrera Middle School, which earns a B, before attending United High School. United High School receives an A-minus from Niche and offers Advanced Placement courses, Carer and technical courses and is the home to the engineering and technology magnet program. The high school occupies the northern most section of San Isidro.Connecting trail with shaded playgrounds
North Central Park cuts through a portion of the neighborhood and leads to the smaller John Valls Park. The two parks are connected by the North Central Trail, a 4-mile paved trail along the edges. Within North Central Park, the trail leads to Duko’s Dog Park and the Reverend Deacon Leonel and Irma San Miguel Swimming Pool. Across from North Central Park and the swimming pool on the southern edge is Amazonia Park, a smaller park with the classic offerings of a shaded playground and a green space with soccer goals. Next to the Divine Mercy Catholic Church is Divine Mercy Park, with shading over both the playground and basketball court. Trees have been planted along the paved path around Divine Mercy Park, and while they are currently too young to provide shade, the goal is to one day cover the route.Buses and two major highways
There are two buses run by El Metro Transit that make their way through San Isidro, with Route 3 following McPherson Road and Route 12b following International Boulevard north to cross Loop 20 before returning to downtown about 8 miles south. Loop 20 leads to Interstate 35, about a mile west. Loop 20 fulfills its name, looping around the eastern edge of Laredo. The Laredo International Airport is 6 miles south.
