It’s hard to miss that the restaurants, parks, and school campuses in Belmont offer plenty of bike racks. While residents walk, bike, and use scooters to get around, car travel is still the most popular mode of transportation beyond the neighborhood. StarTran is the city’s bus system, with 18 routes. What first-time visitors might not expect are the 12 beach volleyball courts right outside the restaurant. Known as Lincoln’s biggest sports bar, grille and volleyball complex, they’re open seven days a week and are always busy, according to reviews on their website. Max E. Roper Park East is between 10th and Belmont Street and 3rd and Superior Streets. With 62 acres it is the largest and most well-appointed park in Belmont. Jamie Granquist, Parks & Recs Office Specialist, says, “The disc golf course here is one of the most popular attractions in this park. It’s pretty new and it’s designed as a linear course, which means fewer holes share the same basket. That makes the game faster and more enjoyable.” Granquist says that another popular feature of the park is the bike trail that winds through wooded waterways. “Families really enjoy this trail. It’s used every day. The only time I don’t see bikers is if it’s raining or snowing.”Belmont Park is located next to Belmont Elementary School and has an outdoor swimming pool, sports fields, a playground and covered picnic shelters. Local Little League teams will often practice on their fields. Like most of Lincoln Parks, it is open from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Stir-crazy kids enjoy the prehistoric scenery and learning how to putt at Prehistoric Putt.
Lincoln Public Schools are the No. 1 best school district in Lancaster County
Younger students can attend Lincoln Public Schools, the No. 1 school district in Lancaster County, according to Niche, which gives the district an A-minus. It ranks in the top ten Lincoln school districts for diversity, athletics and academics. According to Realtor Kirkland, “Lincoln Public Schools are well-regarded and have been around for generations. Parents are proud of the public schools, and many parents are alumni, so there’s a strong loyalty factor here.”Belmont Elementary has a B-minus grade from Niche and a student-teacher ratio of 11 to 1. It offers pre-kindergarten through fifth grade to 814 students. Goodrich Middle also receives a B-minus grade from Niche and offers sixth through eighth grades for 877 students. North Star High is rated the ninth best public high school in Lincoln, according to Niche, who gives the school a B grade. North Star High receives a score of 13 out of 170 schools in Lincoln for college preparation.
From art appreciation to Husker football, Belmont is close to major venues
Belmont residents come together for events, including community block parties, back-to-school cookouts, 4th of July celebrations and Belmont Park cleanup events. The LUX Center for the Arts in nearby University Place neighborhood offers community outreach programs, art appreciation events, instructional classes and summer camps for kids. It’s only six miles to downtown Lincoln where residents can take in classic car shows and concerts at Pinnacle Bank Arena or University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football games at Memorial Stadium.
