Irvingdale mixes historic charm with walkable, easy living
Strolling through Irvingdale is like opening a time capsule to early 20th-century Lincoln. This neighborhood’s tree-shaded streets are lined with gracefully preserved Craftsman-style bungalows and American Foursquares. Most of the properties here feel tucked away, yet all are just minutes from the Bryan Medical Center West Campus, multiple parks, and a variety of restaurants and other businesses.

Residents show pride through preservation and updates
Though most of the houses here have similar architectural influences and are similar in age, built between 1900 and 1940, each has its own character. Every street offers a mix of exterior materials, colors and layouts, and many homes are well-maintained and updated. “There’s a significant amount of historic preservation of homes in that area,” says Laura Rhinehart, a local Realtor with Re/Max Concepts, who has sold homes for about seven years. “In Irvingdale, you’re seeing unique architecture. I enjoy when people actually preserve that architecture.” Though properties in this neighborhood are situated closely together, you still get a bit of yard space and even off-street parking in some cases.
Houses sell from $90,000 to the upper $300,000s. The median sale price of about $220,000 here is less than the median of roughly $350,000 in the neighboring Country Club area. “Irvingdale is a unique little urban neighborhood with a look all its own,” says Matt Kirkland, the owner of The Matt Kirkland Group and Giving Realty, and a Realtor for over 20 years. “While the homes are a little more price competitive than in Country Club, people show off their house-proud nature a bit more loudly. Driving around Irvingdale is fun because someone is always doing something to their house or yard. Healthy competition, I guess you could say.”

Green space extends through the community to the namesake Irvingdale Park. It’s a place you can enjoy tennis under shade trees in one of the multiple courts. “It’s a really tight-knit community,” Rhinehart says. “You know your neighbors. There are a lot of people doing things outdoors, walking a lot.” The park also has a public pool with a slide that’s open from late May through mid-August. Irving Recreation Center next door offers after-school programming. The neighborhood’s Stransky Park has a playground and a gazebo, and hosts the annual KZUM Summer Concert Series, with free performances on Thursday evenings throughout June and July. Rudge Memorial Park features another playground and a good bit of open field space.
