A cultural destination that is home to the University of Southern California, Exposition Park is a South Los Angeles neighborhood that blends the established and the contemporary.

An eclectic collection of established homes is prominent among the neighborhood’s housing, which also includes a mix of duplexes and apartments. With USC’s campus in the neighborhood, there are multiple larger apartment complexes that cater to students. California bungalows and other Craftsman-style homes are noticeable among the single-family housing. Several of the established homes have undergone renovations. Homes in Exposition Park typically list between the mid-$900,000s and upwards of $2 million. Smaller, pre-renovation homes can be found for under $500,000.

The neighborhood is served by Los Angeles Unified School District and includes several public schools. Educational institutions in the area frequently partner with USC, such as the USC Hybrid High School, a public charter school established in part by USC’s college of education that boasts a high college acceptance rate among its students. Other neighborhood schools include Weemes Elementary and Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary. Students in sixth through eighth grades can attend nearby Audubon Middle School.

The neighborhood’s namesake, Exposition Park, is a flourishing center for cultural and outdoor enrichment. It offers acres of museums, gardens and sports facilities. You can watch scientists uncover fossils at the Natural History Museum’s Dino Lab, then immerse yourself in an art exhibit at the California African-American Museum. The California Science Center offers interactive exhibits about space and the environment and is home to the Alexander Science Center, a public charter elementary school with a STEM-focused curriculum. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Exposition Park is home to USC’s football team and hosts a variety of other events, including an annual NASCAR race. You can also catch football of another kind at BMO Stadium, the home of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles FC and the National Women's Soccer League's Angel City FC.

Additional outdoor fun is available at Denker Recreation Center, which hosts classes, summer camps and athletic programs that include martial arts and indoor soccer. The neighborhood complex also features a baseball diamond that is one of multiple regional locations that host the Dodgers DreamTeam youth development program. In addition to the diamond, visitors have access to a lighted soccer field, indoor and outdoor basketball courts and a fitness center. More athletic facilities and children’s play areas can be found at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, another neighborhood green space.

Stores and restaurants are concentrated along Western Avenue, which bisects the neighborhood. Food 4 Less and several independent markets provide convenient grocery options, while popular eateries along the corridor include South LA Café, a contemporary community coffee house. Mercado La Paloma is a large market featuring shops and restaurants on nearby South Grand Avenue. Among the convenient dining options there is Chichen Itza, which features authentic Yucatán-style dishes.

Public transportation is easily accessible for residents, as the Metro Expo Line runs through the middle of the neighborhood. The 110 freeway is adjacent to Exposition Park and the USC campus, providing convenient access to other areas of the city and the surrounding suburbs.

With its charming homes and array of attractions, Exposition Park is a neighborhood with plenty to offer.

I enjoy seeing all the old victorian homes and huge trees that line the sidewalks. I also enjoy walking thru the gardens and walking around the coliseum area, admiring the old USC architecture.
