Single-family homes and townhouses for various price points
Though shopping centers and highways border Mays Chapel, its tree-lined, curving residential streets allow residents to enjoy a more serene suburban setting. “There’s a little bit of everything,” “Whether it's condos, townhouses, villas or family houses, most range from $250,000 to over $1 million, so you’ll find what works for you.” Cape Cods and split-level homes on well-kept lawns date back to the 1940s through the 1960s. Paved driveways allow drivers to park off-street, and fenced backyards give dogs and children room to play. Colonial Revival estates and lodges sit on wide lots, often featuring two-car garages, private pools and outdoor patios. Most single-family homes in Mays Chapel cost between $500,000 and $1 million. For cozy alternatives, two-bedroom condo units in communities like Mays Chapel Village or Shepherds Knoll can be found in the $200,000 to $600,000 range. Luxury townhouses may cost anywhere from $400,000 to $1 million, often featuring private backyards, vaulted ceilings and wide windows for plenty of natural light. Mays Chapel has an average home value about $160,000 higher than the average for the Baltimore metro area, and its market moves quickly, with homes selling after an average of 20 days, less than half the national average.Spending free time at public parks, Baltimore Country Club and Roland Run Club
Mays Chapel has three public parks and two membership-based athletic clubs. Pinewood Elementary’s playground is a popular spot for families to hang out after school and on weekends, and it has a small T-ball field for children’s games. Valley Fields Park North has a soccer field, playgrounds and large trees to picnic under, and Valley Fields Park South has soccer fields and a small trail. On the neighborhood’s north end, the 1898-founded Baltimore Country Club has two 18-hole golf courses, three swimming pools and various dining facilities. “Baltimore Country Club is probably one of the most popular golf courses with a huge waitlist,” Weiskerger says. “It’s pretty exceptional there.” To the south, Roland Run Club has been around since 1955. The members-only athletic club features a swimming pool and courts for tennis, pickleball and more. The club offers tennis camps for kids and leagues for adults.Top Baltimore County Public Schools and a private school option

Mays Chapel is located just 6 miles north of Townson and 14 miles north of downtown Baltimore. "It’s pretty centralized in Baltimore County,” Weiskerger says. “You’re close to enough shopping and retail that you don’t really have to travel to the Townson area, but you can get wherever you want to go if you need to.” Directly east of Mays Chapel is the Fairgrounds station, part of Maryland Transit Authority’s Light RailLink, for those looking to travel into town. Of course, locals also use Interstate 83. For primary care and outpatient surgeries, Johns Hopkins Health Care & Surgery Center is located on the southwest corner of Mays Chapel. Johns Hopkins University is 9 miles south via Interstate 83, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is 25 miles south.Restaurant scene features secret recipes and patio dining
People can find good restaurants if they “drive five minutes in any direction from Mays Chapel,” Weiskerger says. A mile east, Michael’s Cafe is a grill and raw bar that has been owned by the Dellis family since it opened in 1984. The family’s secret recipe for homemade crab cakes made the restaurant famous locally. Three miles south, The Valley Inn offers open-air dining and is known for its cocktails, 80-beer draft list and outdoor games like bocce ball and cornhole. For everyday needs, York Road has plenty of grocery stores, such as Aldi, MOM’s Organic Market and Sam’s Club, as well as home improvement stores like Harbor Freight and Lowe’s.
Important to know: Marble quarry and more
The Martin Marietta Texas Quarry just north of Mays Chapel is a marble quarry that has been around since the early 1800s. Homeowners living within 1 to 2 miles may experience slight tremors, as the facility operators are known to blast the rock below. The pit is about 650 to 700 feet deep, and guests can sign up to tour the facility and look out over the expanse of rock from its scenic overlook. Mays Chapel has a crime score of 2 out of 10 on the CAP Index, below the national average of 4.
