Suburban comforts in Madison’s West Side
Tucked off of Midvale Boulevard and University Avenue, Sunset Village is a residential reprieve from a bustling area. This neighborhood in west Madison, Wisconsin, lies between Lake Mendota and Lake Wingra. It is characterized by quaint Cape Cods on streets lined with mature trees. “The homes are slightly smaller and less expensive than in some of the surrounding areas,” says Jason Iverson, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group who has sold homes across the city. “Sunset Village isn’t quite as walkable as some other Madison neighborhoods because it’s pretty suburban, but it’s still close to places like Hilldale Mall and the University.” Home prices range from the mid-$300,000s to over $750,000.
Sunset Village in Middleton, WI provides wide sidewalks for the local dog walking residents.

Homes in Sunset Village have well-manicured lawns with lot sizes big enough for some landscaping in the front or back yard, but interiors tend toward the smaller size at just 1,5000 square feet on average. A petite Cape Cod or Colonial Revival with only two bedrooms can list for $350,000 or less, while some Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Prairie-style or midcentury modern homes can sell for more than $750,000. The median price of $480,000 —significantly less than neighboring areas like Shorewood Hill, where homes sell in the millions — is enough to purchase a three-bedroom ranch-style home.
