Lincoln Square
Lincoln Center and fine dining destinations
Lincoln Square’s namesake is Lincoln Center, a complex of resident arts organizations that include The Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Film at Lincoln Center. In addition to ticketed premiere music, theater and dance performances, the center hosts a robust calendar of free programming year round. The Shops at Columbus Circle are a destination for high-end shopping and fine dining, and the top-ranked Tatiana is in Lincoln Center. Casual meals can be had at the bustling The Smith, Friedman’s, which specializes in gluten-free cuisine and area stalwart P.J. Clarke’s. An Apple Store is located here and a 13-screen multiplex screens new releases. For indoor exercise, there is rock-climbing at Central Rock Gym and two Equinox fitness clubs. Grocery stores include Whole Foods and Brooklyn Fare, and the year-round Tucker Square Greenmarket.Ornate townhouses, pre-war co-ops and luxury towers
The architecture in this pocket of the city is a blend of 18th- and 19th- century townhouses, fabulously opulent brick and beaux-arts-style mid-rise condominiums and co-ops and full-service modern residential towers. The West 67th Street Artists’ Colony Historic District is a block of residential buildings developed at the turn of the 19th century for creatives. Pre-war co-ops are typically listed for between $500,000 and $2 million; condo prices range between $1 and $5 million, and ultra luxury residences such as the Tower at 50 W. 66th have asking prices in the tens of millions of dollars. As a general rule, prices decline at the far west side of the neighborhood.Sprawling green space on either side
The east side of Lincoln Square borders Central Park, making notable features of the green space such as the Central Park Carousel, Sheep Meadow, playgrounds and Wollman Rink a short walk away. At the western edge of the neighborhood is Riverside Park South, home to volleyball courts, running and biking paths and a dog run. The area’s American Folk Art Museum showcases the work of self-taught artists. An abundance of arts education options
Education options include public and private schools, many of which offer strong arts programs. The rigorous public Special Music School enrolls kindergarten through Grade 12 and receives an A rating from Niche. Public school LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts receives and A+ rating, and the private Professional Children’s School for grades six through 12 is rated A+.Lincoln Center events and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Lincoln Center hosts special events and seasonal programming such as Midsummer Night Swing and Summer in the City, and Columbus Circle serves as a key point along the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route.Easy transit via train or car
Travel to other parts of the city is easy and quick. Local and express subways can be accessed in the north, south and central parts of the neighborhood, including the busy hub of Columbus Circle. Along the Hudson River, the West Side Highway provides connection to points north and south, upstate and in the outer boroughs.
