Named after its bounty of Maple Trees, the eastern Minnesota city of Maple Grove attracts Twin City commuters with its sense of seclusion and proximity to urban amenities. Established in the mid-1800s as a settlement for the Winnebago Indians, Maple Grove has since developed into a growing metropolis specializing in technology and health. “Over the last 20 to 30 years, it has absolutely exploded here,” says Molly Hangartner, Realtor with Homes by Molly, Brokered by Realty Group LLC. “It’s gone from something you would blink driving through to this buzzing metropolis that has essentially everything you would need. The neighboring cities all drive to it." Today, companies like Gyrus ACMI, a medical device supplier and Maple Grove Hospital are two major employers in the city and despite ongoing growth, the Maple Grove Community Organization works to maintain a neighborhood feel through shared activities like their annual Chalkfest Maple Grove and Maple Grove Days. Add to this dynamic lakeside recreation and easy access to U.S. Interstate 94, Maple Grove perfectly balances small-town vibes with urban convenience.

New construction and waterfront properties
The housing market in Maple Grove is competitive due in part to its desirable lakefront landscape and the lack of inventory. “There is low supply versus high demand, like pretty much everywhere in Minnesota,” says Hangartner. “It’s tight right now, and when homes are priced right, they sell quickly.” The city is also growing quickly, which has led to the continual development of new subdivisions on the west side. Not many houses here were built before 1960, and the vast majority were built after 1980, but a small selection of charming Victorians and Colonial Revivals date back to the late 1800s. “Not to be cliché, but there is literally something for everyone,” adds Hangartner. With an average home price of $550,000, homes here are $200,000 more expensive than the average property in Minnesota. Prices range from as low as $200,000 for a two-bedroom townhouse to upwards of $1.8 million for a newly constructed craftsman-style home with five bedrooms and waterfront views. Hundreds of homes here back up to one of the area’s numerous lakes, and many feature private docks, often exceeding $700,000 in price. While some homes in Maple Grove sit close together on quarter-acre lots, most residents still enjoy a sense of privacy fdue to larger yards sized at half an acre to 2 acres, along with mature trees and thick natural areas separating lots.

Outdoor recreation and lakefront activities
Home to around 50 parks and seven lakes, Maple Grove has over 1,000 acres of public park spaces to explore, taking up about a quarter of the city's land. Elm Creek Park Reserve is the largest on the northside, and popular for hiking and mountain biking in the summers, or sledding and cross-country skiing in the winter. For a wooded lakeside setting, Fish Lake Regional Park to the south has a wooden dock for fishing or boating and beaches for sunbathing in the warmer months. Anglers have no trouble finding spots to cast out lines, and the 223-acre Fish Lake is a local favorite for reeling in northern pike and bluegill. Central Park has a playground and paved paths leading to the pavilion, which serves as a warming center during the winter. The public Rush Creek Gast side has an 18-hole course layout and a driving range for fine-tuning swings. Daily tee times and cardholder programs are available and vary depending on the time of day or depth of the package.
